Gavilan College awarded a total of 2,062 associate degrees and certificates to members of the Class of 2026. The commencement ceremony took place May 22 at the college’s Gilroy campus.

Members of the graduating class represent Gilroy, Hollister, Morgan Hill, San Martin, San Juan Bautista and the surrounding area. This year’s graduates include students who completed their programs in fall/winter and spring/summer 2025, and represents the most associate degrees and certificates awarded to Gavilan students in a single year.

“I love commencement because it gives us the chance to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our students,” said Dr. Pedro Avila, Superintendent and President of Gavilan College. “We have a lot to be proud of. This record-breaking class demonstrates Gavilan College’s commitment to providing higher education opportunities for our students and the communities we serve.

“Each degree and certificate represents countless hours of effort, dedication, and potential for future success.”

Gavilan College officials said the historic class reflects the hard work of students from throughout the South Valley.

Many of the graduating students will transfer to four-year colleges to complete bachelor’s degrees; others will enter the workforce, advance in their current careers or continue building skills for future opportunities, says a press release from Gavilan College. Others will continue their education through additional certificates, degrees or professional training.

Students in the Class of 2026 earned degrees and certificates in a variety of fields, including nursing and healthcare, business, education, law enforcement and public safety, aviation and social sciences.

“This is great news for our entire region,” said Dr. Moaty Fayek, Gavilan’s Vice President of Academic Affairs. “When students complete their degrees and certificates, they strengthen their families, support local employers and contribute to the communities Gavilan serves.”
