Friday, the Aromas-San Juan Unified School District held a ground-breaking ceremony for the district’s transportation/maintenance building. The ceremony was attended by County Supervisor Pat Loe, architect Peter Kasavan, Citizens’ Oversight Committee members and district Trustees John Ferreira, Jeff Hancock and Rachel Ponce. Top, Ponce and Hancock break ground with gold shovels. Above, the facility will be located by Anzar High School and the ASJUSD office. The construction is funded by bonds from Measure S passed in March 2002. Cost is $959,250. Construction began in May and is expected to be completed in October. The district currently uses 16 buses, up from five in 1991, and has been storing them at San Juan School. Maintenance and transportation staff have been working out of crowded offices at San Juan School.
