Our first Red Phone caller, a Hollister woman, was wondering
what to do about a home on her block that she said was abandoned by
the former occupants. Since the occupants left, our caller said,
the mail has piled up, the grass is getting long and the front yard
has filled with junk. After failing to get any answers from local
officials, our called dialed up the Crimson Crusader to see what
could be done.

The Crimson Crusader called Mike Chambless, the city’s code enforcement officer, to see if he could do anything about the house, located on the corner of B Street and Powell Street in Hollister. Chambless, who was on vacation Friday, took some time to answer the Crimson Crusader’s questions and said he would take care the problem on Monday. Until then, dearest caller, sit tight and know that Chambless is on the case.
Hoping for rally Regular
Our next Red Phone caller, a Hollister man and motorcyclist, was curious to know if infamous Hells Angel Sonny Barger was planning on riding in to Hollister this year for the July biker rally. The Crimson Crusader made a quick call to Barger on Thursday to find out. Barger said that he was, indeed, planning to come to Hollister for the rally this year.
Happy Holiday?
Our next Red Phone call came from a local man frustrated with his water bill from the city’s finance department. Our caller wanted to know if Friday was some new holiday that he had never heard of because the Finance Office was closed when he went there to complain about being billed twice.
Nope, Friday was not a new holiday. Many city offices, including the Finance Department, began closing on Fridays last month. The closures are part of the deficit reduction plan approved by the City Council in January. The Finance Department is now open Monday through Thursday.
