The supervisors appointed three members to the Tres Pinos Water District board.

The three agencies overseeing the Hollister Area Water Project – a $30 million set of endeavors that will help the community meet quality standards, but will just about double city users’ rates – are hosting an open house July 9.

That open house is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 9 in Room 218 of the Veterans Memorial Building, 649 San Benito St. Residents are welcome to drop in at any time during the event, according to a statement from the agencies.

According to that statement:

During the Open House meeting, staff from the City of Hollister, the San Benito County Water District and the Sunnyslope County Water District and other members of the project team will be on hand to explain the main components of the HUAWP. While there will not be a formal presentation during the Open House, there will be opportunities for people to ask questions about the project and gather information in an informal setting. Questions on rates and costs will also be discussed.

“We want members of our community to have a chance to ask questions and get all the information they need about the project,” said Don Ridenhour, General Manager of the Sunnyslope County Water District. “Presenting the project details in an informal Open House setting allows the public to take in the information at their own pace and talk to the people who have helped develop the project.”

The HUAWP is a joint-effort by the City of Hollister, the San Benito County Water District and the Sunnyslope County Water District that builds upon previous efforts by local water officials to create a sustainable and reliable water supply for the greater Hollister area.

The Hollister City Council will hold a public hearing Monday, August 5, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 375 Fifth Street, Hollister, to consider proposed rate adjustments required to implement the HUAWP. The Sunnyslope County Water District will also hold a public hearing on proposed rate adjustments on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 5:15 p.m. in the SSCWD Board Room at 3570 Airline Highway, Hollister
