All of the candidates in three contested races locally have confirmed they will attend the new Speed Campaigning event organized by the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce and set for April 21, and tickets are still available for the event at San Juan Oaks Golf Club.
The event will include candidates for the two open seats on the board of supervisors, in Districts 3 and 4, along with the open sheriff’s position. All of the candidates have confirmed they will attend, said Jessica French, the chamber’s president and CEO.
For the supervisorial races, District 3 will include incumbent Pat Loe against challenger Robert Rivas. District 4 will include incumbent Reb Monaco against challengers Phil Fortino and Jerry Muenzer. In the sheriff’s race, those facing off include Undersheriff Patrick Turturici, Hollister police Sgt. Ray Wood, Marshal Robert Scattini and Watsonville police Lt. Darren Thompson.
They are competing in the June primary. The top two vote-getters in the primary – barring nobody gets more than 50 percent of the vote – would face off in the November general election.
Residents are invited to attend the event at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. The candidates will move from table to table – based on the “speed dating” premise – and share their views for the upcoming election.
Residents get to stay at their tables while awaiting a new candidate with each changeover. The Speed Campaigning event is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. The price is $15, which includes lunch.
Anyone from the public is invited to attend. Residents are asked to RSVP the chamber at (831) 637-5315.
