A fashion show and raffle scheduled for March 10 at Ridgemark Golf Course in the main dining hall will benefit Pet Friends Rescue.

Barbara Ament, a long-time volunteer with Pet Friends who is planning the “Raining Cats and Dogs” fundraiser with Sally Crisman, said the proceeds of the fundraiser will benefit the care of animals that are awaiting adoption.

“We have 84 ‘residents,’” Ament said, of the pets living at the shelter. “Most are cats, but right now we do have 10 dogs.”

She said the shelter also has some cats that are close to a year old that they refer to as teenagers.

“Adoptions have been very slow,” she said. “They are really nice, healthy cats. They have all been spayed and neutered…They are mostly black and tuxedos. They are the most fun cats.”

Ament explained that the shelter has 52 adult cats in addition to the younger ones because it is a no-kill facility that keeps any animals that are not adopted.

“If they are not adopted they are there for life,” she said.

The fundraiser will help cover the cost of food, cat litter, medical care and other supplies for the animals. Pet Friends volunteers and staff members will take in new cats and dogs from the Hollister Animal Shelter to prevent the pets from being euthanized.

Tickets to the luncheon and fashion show are $25. Sheila Stevens, the owner of She’s is hosting a tea fashion show, which includes models walking silent around the room rather than down a runway. The luncheon will also include a raffle of more than 60 gift baskets and gift certificates. Guests will have a chance to purchase raffle tickets, with each prize having a jar in front of it for the tickets.

“The most fun is the raffle,” Ament said. “You can put as many tickets into each drawing, if you really like something.”

She said the group has received donations from a variety of local businesses as well as donations from individuals involved with Friends of Pet Friends. Each basket has a theme, with some full of garden-related items, some with wine, others with food items and more.

Ament said Nancy Ann Coffaro has been helping to put the baskets together. Ament had 48 baskets stored in a bedroom at her home in the two weeks before the event.

Tickets are still available, though Ament said sales have been good leading up to the event.

She stressed that the money raised all goes to the care of animals at the shelter

“We have so many that are so fun and young,” she said, of the cats. “They are about a year old and they just need homes. They are healthy and ready to go.”

Pet Friends Rescue is open Tuesday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, from noon to 3 p.m. For more information on adoptable pets, call 634-1191 or visit 2975 Buena Vista Road.
