Pebble Beach – The Anzar girls’ volleyball team won its fourth straight match Friday, topping Robert Louis Stevenson in four games on the road. The Hawks ran their Mission Trail Athletic League record to 6-2 with the 25-11, 25-20, 25-27, 25-11 win.

Senior Emily Deleissegues starred for Anzar, registering 18 kills, two blocks and a stunning 45 digs. Setter Danielle Bossler notched 41 assists, and junior middle Christina Flores posted 10 kills and three blocks.

After prevailing in a hard-fought, five-game thriller over visiting Pacific Grove on Wednesday, the Hawks (11-4) wasted no time in defeating the Pirates.

“Our aim was to be 7-1 in the first eight games,” Anzar co-head coach Chris Wardlaw said of his team’s goals in league play. “6-2 isn’t so far off. (And) I think be have a good shot at going 7-1 to finish it off. It’ll be tough, but attainable.”

Wardlaw pointed to a rematch with Santa Catalina next Wednesday as a chance for the Hawks to avenge a contest he thought Anzar should have won in the first round of MTAL matches.

But first, Anzar plays host to North Salinas on Monday in a match against a bigger school from the Tri-County Athletic League. That match is set for 6pm in San Juan Bautista.
