Over the past weekend two creative events drew crowds in San Benito County. Students from San Benito High School teacher John Robrock’s advanced placement art classes showed their work at the Blak Sage Gallery on San Benito Street.

On Saturday, the students hosted an art opening complete with appetizers from AJ Sushi and Cafe Ella. More than 141 works are hanging in the gallery. The three-week show continues this weekend.

Cerra Vista Elementary School enjoyed a successful Family Art Night Jan. 23, despite power outages in the area and bad weather. Kids and parents partcipated in such events as a lei-making demonstration by staff from Precious Petals and a wood creation station. A Lego sculpture activity was also popular. One parent, Amy Neff, estimated that more than 200 people showed up to the event to participate. A follow-up event is being planned for March.

The San Benito High School ART 101 show continues at

Blak Sage Gallery of Fine Art, 727 San Benito St.

The show will be open Friday, Jan. 31 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, Jan. 31 and 31 from noon to 5 p.m.
