the track sidings are no longer used, but the one active line
through town now serves a single freight client.

Downtown Hollister is bisected by a once-busy rail line. Most of the track sidings are no longer used, but the one active line through town now serves a single freight client.
Perhaps the light rail use invites neglect, but Hollister’s rail crossings continue to deteriorate, and form an effective barrier for people trying to walk or bicycle to and from the downtown area.
The Pinnacle recently published contact information for Union Pacific, which controls a 100-foot-wide swath through downtown paralleling the tracks.
But since then, several residents have reported being thrown from bicycles and motorcycles by the tracks, which cross most intersections at a sharp angle.
