In a huge show of support from the community, the sixth annual dinner and auction organized by the Aromas-San Juan Bautista Community Schools Foundation, raised $8,000.

About $2,000 was raised to support arts programs at school in the Aromas-San Juan Unified School District. The sum was collected through a live auction of student art work that was held in addition to the annual dinner and auction March 8.

An additional $6,000 was raised that will go toward scholarships for students. Ticket sales and money from the annual live auction of goods and services went toward the scholarships.

Over the past five years, the foundation has awarded over $33,000 in scholarships.

The event was vital to the program with cutbacks in arts funding and the current state budget deficit, said Jackie Munoz, ASJUSD superintendent. In most districts, arts programs are the first to be cut, Munoz said.
