There’s a prime example of what Silva Landscape can do running along the side of a house on Nash Road near Prune Street.
It’s a long, rock-filled and bubbling waterfall. And it happens to be the home of the man who owns Silva Landscape, Rick Silva.
Most of what Silva Landscape does is maintenance, Silva said, keeping customers happy.
But the company can do anything, including new installs and refurbishing.
“We like keeping Hollister looking beautiful,” Silva said.
And waterfalls, of course, are the company’s specialty.
Examples of Silva’s handiwork include landscaping at the Windmill Shopping Center in San Juan Bautista and SpeeDee Oil Change & Tune-Up on Airline Highway in Hollister.
The 40-year-old Silva began working as a landscaper with his father, Manuel Silva, in the 1980s.
Silva partnered with his father in 1985 and received his contractor’s license in 1990.
In 1999, Silva took over the family business.
For Silva, the business is somewhat of an outlet.
“I just like the creativity,” Silva said.
And after a record-breaking freeze in January torched much of the residential landscaping in Hollister, Silva should be busy.
