Just a few months ago, the 2011-12 boys basketball season seemed in disarray.

There are more than just changes at the head coaching position for the girls basketball team entering the new season.

The 2012 sports season promises to be much different than the past year, as the Tri-County Athletic League and the Monterey Bay League merge to create a new unnamed equity league.

San Benito's Jacob De Leon saw a hole on the second play of Friday's first-round playoff game against Archbishop Mitty and turned up field. To come away with a victory in San Benito's first game in the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs over Archbishop Mitty, the Balers (7-2-1) have to do something they've done all year - stop the run.

Football coaches from the Monterey Bay Athletic League and the Tri-County Athletic League met earlier this week and voted on the placement of the leagues' teams in next year's equity league.

After finishing its league season 8-4 - good for second place in the Tri-County Athletic League - four players from the San Benito volleyball team were awarded with all-league honors.

The season ended a step below the ultimate goal for the San Benito boys and girls cross-country teams Saturday. The teams failed to place in the top two of the Division I Central Coast Section championship at Belmont, finishing their season before the state championship.
