Hollister trustees' cancellation of school bus service in response to a state cut will not only hit home harder than other reductions in recent years, but it also puts the district in a precarious position when it comes to offering equal access to public education.

Members of the VFW Post 9242 honored a young local writer at a recent meeting for winning this year’s Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest. The winner this year was Dominic Barrios, who read his essay aloud at the meeting. Barrios received a certificate of merit and $100 for his winning essay. His parents, John and Dena Barrios, attended the awards ceremony with him.
Despite having been outspent nearly 4-to-1 and now having to face an incumbent who defeated him by 22 percentage points in the 2010 election, Hollister Republican Rob Bernosky is hoping a pro-education, lower regulation message will resonate with voters in the redrawn 30th Assembly District during the fall election.
