GILROY—The camaraderie in the Gavilan College gym Tuesday was undeniable. After each drill, the Rams volleyball players huddled together to acknowledge each other's accomplishments, always ending with a “Go Rams” chant before breaking. That, head coach Kevin Kramer said, is what an entire summer of bonding does for a team.

GILROY—Tuesday’s game quickly spiraled out of the Rams’ control, and by the time they got a handle on it, it was too late.

The Gavilan College baseball  jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, but San Mateo evened the score in the bottom of the second. 

Gavilan coach Neal Andrade said he was confident pitcher Matt Oxner would keep his team in games this season. It looks like he was right.

GILROY — Normally a 13-4 score wouldn’t make a coach happy, but Gavilan coach Neal Andrade was still smiling following the Gavilan baseball team’s season opener against San Joaquin Delta College Tuesday.

With San Jose City College's lead near doubling Gavilan at halftime, the Rams faced a tough task.
