It's time to make your healthy habits stick. Whether it’s establishing an exercise routine or making healthier food choices, you’ll have a better chance of succeeding if you train your mind. Anyone can start a new fitness routine and eat healthier meals for a month or two, but it’s exponentially more difficult to stick to those habits for a lifetime.
The moment of truth has arrived. On Aug. 23, I’ll be running my first-ever marathon in Santa Rosa. The starting gun goes off at 6 a.m.; my finishing time, of course, has yet to be determined. My goal is to finish in 3 hours, 27 minutes, 34 seconds, which equates to a 7:55-minute mile pace over the 26.2 miles.
The summer is more than halfway over and school is in session. That means the autumn foot racing season draws nigh. The 37th Annual Bill Flodberg Mt. Madonna Challenge, a Gilroy tradition, beckons hardy racers to toe the line in the dirt on Aug. 25.

The inaugural 5K Ranch Romp Mud Run debuted May 5 at the Pepper Tree Ranch in Hollister, where 1,675 foolhardy athletes conquered 10 obstacles on the vineyard’s premises.
