Marty: Economic activity, the missing element

According to the San Benito County Crop Report, the 2009 gross value  of the county’s five crop and livestock categories was $243.3  million. That’s impressive. Agriculture in all its forms and related  jobs is a vital local industry. However, the biggest “business” of  San Benito County residents is commuting – people getting into a car,  bus or train and going to work elsewhere so they can make a lot more  money.

Well, here we are. It’s our first full week of spring and it sure is looking good down here in South County, finally! The grass is green, wildflowers are starting to bloom and the cattle are starting to look good. We had another nice shot of rain over the weekend to keep everyone around here happy as well. If it keeps up like this, we may have a good year after all.
