Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 55-year-old San Benito County man on New Year’s Eve after he had been suspected of threatening family members with a shotgun and firing one round into the ceiling of the residence, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
It was no surprise that a fact-finding panel recently ruled in favor of the Hollister School District, which had come to impasse in talks with the classified bargaining unit representing about 200 employees, and now it is in the union’s hands to do the right thing and accept the brunt of this reasonable offer from administrators.
Following its three-day summit held in October, Community Vision San Benito has released several reports on the gathering, most recently a one-page "collective statement" called "View 22: San Benito County's 10-Year Initiative 2012-2022." It includes insights from the summit along with previous meetings during the past 16 months, according to an announcement from the vision group, which re-launched the dormant effort this year under the umbrella of the Community Foundation for San Benito County.
Looking back on 2011, as I have done this week compiling a year-in-review story for this newspaper, reminded me how much happens in a town where nothing happens.

Citing "the extreme menace of wildfire and its potential to destroy life, property, and natural resources" following continued dry conditions, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection last week suspended open burning in many areas of the state, including San Benito County.
