With thousands of people surrounding the dirt ring at the American Cowboy Team Roping Association’s National Finals in Reno, Hollister’s Wyatt Naccarato, 16, and Craig Slibsager, 18, knew they were a long way from home.
It was a long wait for Cash Robinson coming into the final day of the 79th annual San Benito County Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo at Bolado Park on Sunday.
What’s that old saying, April showers bring May flowers? Well, it sure is happening in South County. We were blessed with almost two inches of rain last week. Mother Nature sure works in mysterious ways, just when you think you’re not going to get another drop of rain for the year, she gives you buckets of rain to keep the grass a growing. Whew, what a relief!
Well, here we are. It’s our first full week of spring and it sure is looking good down here in South County, finally! The grass is green, wildflowers are starting to bloom and the cattle are starting to look good. We had another nice shot of rain over the weekend to keep everyone around here happy as well. If it keeps up like this, we may have a good year after all.
Well, I hope that by the time you're reading this column that we have had a few days of rain. It's the middle of January and we have had less than two inches of rain since July. Weather forecasters have predicted a wet weekend so let's hope they're right.
