As local veterans groups prepared for the big Hollister motorcycle rally weekend in early July, they had a dirty little surprise crawl up on them—rats.
As part of the 14th annual San Benito County Veterans Day ceremony and parade in downtown Hollister on Nov. 11, more banners will be going up with the names of local veterans presently serving on active duty. Their names are: Michael Canning, Marc Martin Del Campo, Miguel Martin Del Campo, Yesenia Robles, and Anthony Perez.
Despite pleas from veterans groups in recent years, Hollister police haven’t issued any citations for illegal skateboarding at the Veterans Memorial Building since 2011, according to data from the department.
Hollister’s Richard Herrera beamed as he stroked his chosen horse “Jerry” with a brush. Herrera, a veteran of the first Gulf War, was at peace at Wood Myst Farm on a recent Thursday.
The second annual VFW Golf Tournament will be June 19. Four-member scramble will be held at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. The cost will be $125 per person, $500 for a foursome. Last Tuesday, our nation honored and remembered brave men and women who have served our country in the armed forces or who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We should continue to recognize them year round and more importantly, continue to teach our younger generations about the importance of honoring our veterans from an early age.
During Tuesday’s Veterans Day ceremony in Hollister, American Legion Post 69 Commander Joe Love pointed to the standing room-only crowd in attendance and recalled a sparser audience just a few years ago.
The Hollister VFW Post 9242 and American Legion Post 69 are hosting their 13th annual San Benito County Veterans Day Ceremony and Parade in downtown Hollister on Tuesday. Also, the Elks Lodge is hosting a pig roast benefit.
