Veterans Day Parade in Hollister from 2013

The Hollister VFW Post 9242 and American Legion Post 69 are hosting their 13th annual San Benito County Veterans Day Ceremony and Parade in downtown Hollister on Tuesday. Also, the Elks Lodge is hosting a pig roast benefit.
Veterans Day celebration
The Hollister VFW Post 9242 and American Legion Post 69 are hosting their 13th annual San Benito County Veterans Day Ceremony and Parade in downtown Hollister on Tuesday. The memorial ceremony will take place at 11:11 a.m. in the Veteran’s Memorial Building and the parade step off at 1:30 p.m., downtown Hollister. Applications for the parade are available at Hollister City Hall, the VFW website www.hollistervfwpost9242.org or by calling 638-6434. There is no entry fee for this parade.
This year Miss California, Marina Inserra, will be a guest speaker at the ceremony and participate in the parade, and two World War II veterans will share the honor of serving as the parade’s Grand Marshalls.
Other activities for the day include a breakfast hosted by LULAC at 7:00 am in the San Benito High School Cafeteria, with the Veterans Benefit Fair at 10 a.m., a memorial ceremony at 11:11 a.m., a banner presentation at 11:30 a.m. and a BBQ lunch at noon.
The banner presentations will feature installing banners on the light post in the Veteran’s Memorial Building Plaza that individually honor our local active duty military personnel. The banners will remain in place until the service member is deactivated.

Veterans Day LULAC Breakfast
The League of United Latin American Citizens is hosting its 21st annual Veterans Breakfast on Nov. 11. It is set for 7 a.m. to noon at the San Benito High School cafeteria, 1220 Monterey St. The guest speaker will be James Panetta, assistant district attorney for Monterey County, while the master of ceremonies will be Mike Sanchez, superintendent of county schools. The breakfast price is $8. LULAC will recognize its Veterans of the Year at the event as well. This year the nominees are Cesar Flores, Larry Brown and Sonora Vasquez.
Holiday raffle for veterans
A Holiday Raffle to benefit local veterans is being put on by Salon 218, 214 Fifth St. Each ticket is $5 with the winner getting a package valued at $350 from Salon 218 that includes a hair cut and blow dry; massage; manicure or pedicure; and facial. Pig Roast Dinner
A Pig Roast Dinner to benefit the Hollister Elks Lodge is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the lodge. Menu items will include roasted pork, beans, coleslaw, applesauce, garlic bread and carrot cake. Dinner tickets are $18. Please make reservations before Nov. 11 at noon by calling (831) 637-1436. It will include a silent auction with closing bids at 8:30 p.m. plus raffles. Funds will go toward a major project to help kids with disabilities.
‘The Addams Family’
San Benito Stage Company presents: “The Addams Family” The weird and wonderful family comes to devilishly delightful life when the story unfolds into every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. This musical is performed by local teens ages 13-19 and opens at the Granada Theatre on 5th Street in Hollister on Halloween, Oct. 31 and will run three consecutive weekends closing on Nov. 15th. Lights On Celebration
The Hollister Downtown Association invites you to attend its 24th Annual Lights On Celebration, on Nov. 29. This family-friendly community event brings up to 10,000 people to downtown. This year’s parade theme is “The Magic of Christmas!” and will be led by Jaime the Elf. The celebration continues to be a day-long event with the Holiday Boutique open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., the return of the car show from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (entry fee is a new, unwrapped toy), and the parade starts at 5:30 p.m. Continuing are the traditional lights in the trees, bright red bows on lighted wreaths and local community entertainment.
