Kids make a difference at Y

The children in the YMCA of San Benito County afterschool programs have been hard at work again making a difference in the community.

Top 5: Veterans Day festivities; ‘Sounds of Brass’ and more

Veterans Day Parade: The Veterans Day Parade will take place Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. in downtown Hollister. The day's festivities will start with a resource fair for veterans, a moment of silence at 11:11 a.m. and a barbecue lunch at noon, followed by the parade. Wrestling: Warriors, San Benito High set to partner in “wrestling hub”

After spending the past year practicing out of the Maze Middle School gym, the Hollister Warriors youth wrestling program - and its 35 wrestlers - will open a permanent home later this month - possibly alongside the San Benito High wrestling program.

1.) YMCA/Rotary golf tournament: The YMCA and the Hollister Rotary are hosting a golf tournament and dinner Friday at San Juan Oaks Golf Club, 3825 Union Road. The even will support YMCA’s youth development programs and Rotary scholarships for college students. The tournament and dinner is $130. Dinner only is $40. A golf clinic starts at 9:30 a.m., with registration and a book signing with Tom Flores at 10:30 a.m. The shotgun start is noon. YMCA to expand middle school sports

Two years after the Hollister School District removed athletics from its schools and the YMCA swooped in to offer middle school basketball, the Y is looking to expand its student-athlete programs.

Community Spotlight: YMCA hosts Healhty Kids Day; Outdoor Club cleans riverbed

The YMCA had more than 500 members of the community join in celebrating Healthy Kids Day April 21. The annual event had more than 44 nonprofits and local businesses participating in the outdoor fair. They raffled off eight sports balls and offered the first day to sign up for summer camp. More spaces are available and those that sign up before May 15 will get a free camp T-shirt.
