Mark Starritt

Mark Medina had more than twice as much money in his campaign war chest than competitor Mark Starritt through the most recent filing period, but only because one candidate donated a lot more of his own money than the other, according to records.
Candidates had to submit their campaign finance disclosure statements, Form 460s, late last week to the county elections office. Among the local races with money involved is the District 1 county board seat representing northeast Hollister and north county areas. Supervisor Margie Barrios is departing from the role after her eight-year tenure finishes later this year.
Medina’s campaign through April 23 raised $18,268. That included $13,888 in loans from himself and $4,380 in monetary contributions, according to his filings.
Starritt’s campaign raised $7,825 through April 23. It included $2,500 in loans from himself and $5,325 in contributions, according to records.
As for expenses, Medina had spent $15,100 and Starritt had spent $6,023 in the filing period. Among Medina’s detailed expenses, $11,685 went toward Rick Rivas Consulting, according to his form. Starritt, meanwhile, lists a Gilroy address on his 460 form and spent all of his campaign money in Gilroy or Freedom.
Medina and Starritt are facing off on the June 7 ballot. The next campaign finance filing deadline is May 26. It will cover fundraising activities through May 21.
