Hollister – The county’s Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will consider making financial contributions to the San Juan Bautista community center and a Hollister park improvement project.

Supervisors will consider giving $100,000 to the community center, which plans to use the money to help pay for a $400,000 building renovation, and up to $50,000 for playground equipment and landscaping at John Z. Hernandez Park in Hollister. According to Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz, the park’s equipment has deteriorated to the point that residents no longer allow their children to play there.

Tuesday’s meeting is the last of the year. It will begin at 9:30am in the Board of Supervisors chamber.

The supervisors will receive updates from the director of the Health and Human Services Agency regarding transitional shelter services. Earlier this year, the county lost the funding for its transitional shelter program.

There will also be a public hearing to consider changing the zoning at 190 Hillcrest Road to facilitate development of a 150,000-square-foot home improvement center, a 31,5000-square-foot garden center, other retail and multi-family housing.

The supervisors will also recognize a number of longtime local public servants, including former Hollister Mayor Robert Scattini, custodian Domingo Rea, road maintenance worker Vincent Luna and county clerk/auditor/recorder John Hodges.
