Tres Pi̱os РCowboys will saddle up this weekend and try not to get bucked off as they ride in the 11th Annual Bolado Charity Rodeo, raising money for San Benito County youth organizations.

County residents interested in watching the roping, ranch sorting and barrel racing can bring the whole family because admission is free, and Jaynie Little, coordinator of the event, said it’s a very “family friendly atmosphere.”

“This is a great event, and it’s something for people to do this weekend,” she said. “People should bring their kids out to enjoy the food 4-H is making, and watch the cowboys go at it. They love watching that.”

Money raised from the entry fees of participants goes directly back into the youth organizations in the community. Last year alone, the rodeo gave $8,500 away to local schools and scholarships.

“It all goes toward helping children move forward in the right direction,” Little said.

Saturday’s line-up includes rodeo and ranch sorting, and Sunday will include barrel racing and team roping. The events occur throughout the days.

Years ago, the rodeo used to be called the Bolado Police Rodeo, because it was run by local law enforcement, but in the past few years, there have been less officers on the board of directors and riders were confused and thought they had to be in law enforcement to participate.

“We wanted it to reflect more of what we’re about,” Little said.
