Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero will return to the ring April 30 in Las Vegas, publicist Mario Serrano said on Tuesday.
Golden Boy Promotions Matchmaker Robert Diaz confirmed the date via e-mail. Diaz also wrote in his e-mail that the announcement of an opponent and the exact location of the fight will be released “shortly.”
Guerrero is scheduled to fight in the main event of the Solo Boxeo Tecate, a Friday Night Fights television program to be broadcast on TeleFutura.
“There are talks and it’s looking pretty solid,” Serrano said, stating that nothing is concrete until officially announced by Golden Boy.
“Nothing is confirmed until they send out a press release,” he said.
Vacating his IBF Junior Lightweight title in mid-February, Guerrero took a leave of absence from boxing to spend as much time with his wife Casey, who had just received a bone marrow transplant — the most recent step in her battle with Leukemia.
Serrano said Casey is continuing to make progress and “things are looking positive.”
If all goes according to plan, this will be Guerrero’s first fight in eight months. He defeated Malcom Klassen in August 2009 to obtain the Junior Lightweight crown.
More on this developing story will be posted soon.
