Parks advisory committee members sought
San Benito County is looking for two community members to participate on the River Parkway and Regional Park Advisory Committee to represent the community at large.
As the county proceeds with the development of a master plan for the proposed park, the advisory committee will help to guide the conceptual design of the two parks, representing the interests of stakeholders/special interest groups and San Benito County residents in general.
At this time, it is thought that the advisory committee will meet once a month to provide input on the design of elements and features of the park. The River Parkway is proposed as a multi-use trail, paved for bicycles and pedestrians, and a separated, unpaved trail for equestrians, including rest areas and restrooms. It will stretch from Highway 101, near San Juan Bautista to the San Benito County Historical Park. The trail alignment has not been determined yet. The proposed River Parkway will be enhanced by the connection with expanded park facilities, a regional park, located behind San Benito High School that will feature lawn area, picnic facilities, a dog park, amphitheater and a nature area. Those interested in being on the advisory committee should contact Janelle Cox, a management analyst for the county, by Dec. 12. The proposed committee structure will be discussed at the County’s Park and Recreation Commission meeting Dec. 20. Cox can be reached at 636-4000 or [email protected].

Rotary ‘saints’
The posting of the California Mission saints on Third Street in San Juan Bautista during the holiday season is an historic and traditional event. In the past, community members have sponsored a saint in remembrance of a family member or friend.
The Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista is most interested in keeping the traditions of the City alive! Therefore to ensure this tradition continues, the Rotary Club will be responsible for organizing sponsorship donations and the posting of the Saints during the 2011 holiday season. Those who are interested in sponsoring a saint (for $100) or who would like more information, can call past SJB Rotary Club president Donna Holmes at 623-1168 or email her at [email protected]. Proceeds are exclusively for the saints’ restoration and secure storage. Sponsorships can be sent to: San Juan Bautista Rotary Club, P.O. Box 823, San Juan Bautista, CA 95045.
