for contestants for the 31st Annual Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival
Queen Pageant and the 2009 Art Poster Contest deadline is
approaching.
Be the queen, smell the garlic
The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association is accepting applications for contestants for the 31st Annual Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen Pageant. The scholarship pageant is judged on personal interview, speech, talent, and evening gown. Scholarships are awarded to many pageant contestants, including the queen. The applications are available at the the Garlic Festival office, 7600 Monterey St., Suite 140, Gilroy
Applicants must be a resident of Gilroy, San Martin, Morgan Hill, Hollister, San Juan Bautista or Aromas. They must be a single female who has never been married and has no children, a high school graduate by June, and between the ages of 18 to 24 by July.
Deadline to submit a completed application is 4:30pm March 27.
The Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Pageant is scheduled for 2 p.m. May 17 at the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Boulevard, Gilroy.

Capture the spirit of the stinking rose
The deadline for the Gilroy Garlic Festival’s 2009 Art Poster Contest is 5 p.m. Feb. 27.
The artist of the entry that is judged to best capture the spirit and essence of the food festival will take home $750, ten posters and one of each souvenir item produced with their artwork. The second place winner will receive $400 and the third place winner will take $200.
The winning entry will be reproduced as a high quality, limited edition poster to be sold at the 31st Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, July 24-26.
Winners will be notified by March 31.
