Friends of Mitch Dike and his girlfriend, Lydia – both of whom were involved in a serious motorcycle accident and were hit by a drunk driver in August 2012 – are hosting a fundraiser from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 19 in the back room at Paine’s Restaurant. According to an announcement from the organizers, they both sustained serious injuries and Mitch received the brunt of it all. Many scars and surgeries later, Mitch is still in need of two more surgeries to help him walk and sit properly. They are inviting residents to honor him as well as support him for a Santa Maria Style BBQ, silent auction, 50/50 raffle bake sale and great entertainment provided by Aaron Avila & Second Wind Band. Bornia Boys band could advance to Memphis
The Bornia Boys blues band won first place in a field of three bands at The Golden Gate Blues Society International Blues Challenge on Sunday at McGovern’s in San Mateo. The Bornia Boys will now advance to Biscuits and Blues in San Francisco on Sept. 29 to compete with three other bands at The International Blues Regional Final IBC. The winner will represent The Golden Gate Blues Society at The Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis from Jan. 21 to Jan. 24.
Child seat installations
The CHP is working with county public health and the Childhood Injury Prevention Coalition on a child passenger seat installation event. It is set for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Kmart parking lot, 491 Tres Pinos Road.
‘Bikers for the Arts’ destination run
The San Benito County Arts Council is inviting residents to come out to Bolado Park for the “Bikers for the Arts” destination run noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 21, a Saturday.  It is sponsored by the San Benito County Arts Council, Monterey Bay Confederation of Clubs and the Top Hatters Motorcycle Club. It will feature live music, food and drinks, bike games, art demos, raffles and more. Tickets are now on sale at DLG Printing, Johnny’s Bar & Grill and the Blak Sage Gallery in Hollister, and Mom & Pops in San Juan Bautista. Aromas Hills Artisans
Aromas Hills Artisan events coming up – Autumn Art Festival from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Aromas Grange, where AHA artists will give free workshops to the public on how to, paint, draw, do crafts and other activities. Nov. 16 and 17 is the Holiday Art Festival (pre-Christmas sale) at the Aromas Grange. Dozens of artisan booths, all under one roof. It is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
According to an announcement from the group: There’s no better way to celebrate local culture in San Benito County than to enjoy an afternoon of biker and art festivities in the beautiful surroundings of Bolado Park.  All proceeds benefit the SBC Arts Council, which provides art programs to over 6,000 local elementary students, as well as art exhibitions, concerts and other cultural opportunities for the entire community. Retired teachers meeting
The San Benito County chapter of California Retired Teachers will hold its next business meeting on Oct. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. A luncheon will be served after the meeting. The guest speaker will be Mary Ann Hughes, director of the San Benito County Food Bank.
Casino trip fundraiser
The Hollister Senior Center is having a fundraiser trip to Chukchansi and Tachi Palace Indian Casinos on Oct. 5. The departure is 6:30 a.m. from the Hollister Community Center, 300 West St. The cost is $30 per person. Each participant gets $10 in e-cash, a $5 food voucher at Chukchansi and $10 in e-cash at the Palace. The trip is open to anyone over 21. Advanced registration is required. Youth parks commissioners needed
Apply to be a Parks and Recreation Youth Commissioner. There are two vacant positions as of August 31, to fill. These are the only two youth members of the nine-member San Benito County Parks and Recreation Commission. The commission advises the San Benito County Board of Supervisors on current and future parks and recreation programs, facilities, and services. The vcommission meets on the second Tuesday of each month, from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. The term is for one year. Youths must be 18 years of age or younger at the time of appointment.  Applications are due Sept. 15. Oriana Chorale rehearsals begin
HOLLISTER – Oriana Chorale has started rehearsals for its fall/winter concerts on Mondays, at the United Methodist Church in Hollister, 521 Monterey St, from 7:15 to 9:30 p.m. Performances will be in December at the First Presbyterian Church in Hollister and Mission San Juan Bautista.
