Child Care provider recognition: Child care providers are being honored at a special dinner event on Thursday, May 27, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at San Juan Oaks Golf Club, Highway 156 at Union Road. Registration is from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Bill Michaelis, professor at San Francisco State University and director of Children Together, an international leadership training organization. Admission is free for licensed child care providers and $10 for guests.

PINNACLE QUILTERS: San Benito County will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. on April 20 at the Assembly of God Church, 301 Alameda, Suite G. Guest speaker Jeannie Oliveria will show her Baltimore Beauties exhibit featuring fine hand sewing technique. CLUB LIVE DANCE: San Benito Youth Council/San Benito Prevention Coalition will sponsor the monthly Club Live dance on Friday, April 16, 2004 from 7:00 to 9:45 pm at the Hollister Community Center, 300 West Street.

The dance is for San Benito County middle school students only. Admission is $4 for Club Live members and $5 for non-members. School identification card with photo is required and no one will be admitted without it. The dance is part of the Youth Council’s drug-free activities for San Benito County youth.

San Benito Prevention Coalition (SBPC): Will meet 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, at the Dunne Park Clubhouse, corner of West and Sixth streets.

SBPC is composed of concerned San Benito County citizens wanting to reduce substance abuse among youth. Everyone interested in learning more about SBPC’s work and who want to contribute towards SBPC’s efforts to reduce substance abuse among youth is welcome to attend. STATE ART FAIR: The California Exposition & State Fair is now excepting entries for California Fine Art, one of the largest and oldest art competitions in the state. The California State Fair and special donor organizations offer over $15,000 in award money. Award amounts range from $40 to $500.

Hollister Kiwanis Club: The sixth annual plant and flower sale for the San Juan Bautista Service Club will be held from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. this weekend, April 17 and 18, in the Windmill parking lot. Proceeds from the event will benefit the service club’s sponsorship of projects like the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, YMCA and other community minded activities. PASTA FUND-RAISER: The Hollister Kiwanis Club will be holding its annual pasta feed fund-raiser Friday, April 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bertha Briggs House, 1221 Memorial Drive. The meal includes all you can eat pasta with meat or meatless sauce, salad, garlic bread, a beverage and dessert and is available for dine-in or take-out. BLM workshop: The Bureau of Land Management has scheduled a workshop on Wednesday, April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hollister Field Office, 20 Hamilton Court, to discuss the fiscal year 2005 off-highway vehicle grant proposal for the Clear Creek Management Area. The grant provides funds for costs directly related to planning, managing and coordinating the OHV program in the Clear Creek Management Area.
