Oriana Chorale: The San Benito Oriana Chorale will begin rehearsals for the spring concert season Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2300 Airline Hwy in Hollister at 7:15 p.m. This spring’s concert theme is “Show Stoppers.” New singers are always welcome. No Ball Day: Saturday, Feb. 7 will be No Ball Game Day, a day to bring a board game, cards and friends for fun, hosted by the American Association of University Women. The event will be held at the Historic Strand Theater, 7588 Monterey St. in Gilroy from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes lunch, two gaming sessions, door prizes and snacks. Spring Grove: The North County Joint Union School District is now registering kindergarten children for 1004-05 school year. Registration packets can be picked up at the Spring Grove School office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each school day. Children entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2, 2004. All required paperwork must be on file before a child can be placed on a class list. The following are state and district requirements for incoming kindergartners: birth date verification, CHDP examination, proof of residency and immunizations (polio, OPV or IPV, DTP/DTzP/DT/Td, MMR, hepatitis B, varicella and TB skin test).

Book Club: The first Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and first Thursday at 7 p.m. of each month the book club meets at The Wize Owl Book Store, 8060 Santa Teresa Blvd., in Gilroy. For more information, call 408-848-9090. New members are always welcome.

Recycling Bin: The recycling bin behind the Free Lance will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and open Friday through Sunday night.

Tax Service: AARP Tax-Aide Program offers free personal tax counseling and preparation assistance to all taxpayers with middle and low income, with special attention to those age 60 and older. Starting Tuesday, Feb. 3, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 5:30 p.m. until Thursday, April 15 at Community Center, 300 West Street in Hollister. By appointment only, those who need held preparing their tax returns should bring the tax package they received in the mail, last years return and all relevant information on income and expense. Measure G Forum: A public forum will be held on Measure G. A panel of presenters will share their views on the growth control measure appearing on the March 2 ballot. The forum is sponsored by the San Benito Agricultural Land Trust. SJB Chamber: The San Juan Bautista Chamber of Commerce mixer will be Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at 410 Third Street, Pepper Tree Corner.

CFAS Class: The American Red Cross will be holding a community first aid and safety class Saturday, Jan. 24, Saturday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 28. Red Cross: The American Red Cross will be holding an instructor training class for first aid and CPR on Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 5:30 to 10:15 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. All classes must be attended in order to be certified as an instructor. Historical Society: The San Benito County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Dunne Park Club House, at Sixth and West streets. The guest will be Joe McMahan, a descendant of the Castros of Monterey and San Juan Bautista. The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
