Freshman Orientation

San Benito High School will hold the Freshmen and New Student Orientation with registration beginning at 7:45am on Fri. Aug. 20, at the Mattson Gym parking lot. The event is entirely student run and will include numerous events including a student barbecue. The SBHS Administration is also planning a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new campus.

ACT Registration

The deadline to register for the September ACT is Aug. 20. Students may register with their counselor or through the ACT Web site at www.act.org. Late registration is accepted until Sept. 3 with an additional fee. The cost is $28.

Aromas Day

Aromas will hold a “Day in the Country” on Sun. Aug. 22. Activities include a country-style breakfast, community-wide yard sales, a street fair, auction and parade.

Historical Meeting

San Benito County Bilingual Advisory Group

All interested parties are invited to become members of the advisory group to assist in determining how to effectively provide election related information and materials to Spanish speaking voters.

The group will meet monthly and the first meeting will be held at 7pm on Thurs. Aug. 19 in room 204 of the court house.

Women’s Networking

The Salinas Valley Business Women’s Network will host Julie Cavassa, an executive coach for DFS America, in a mini-workshop from 11:30am to 1pm on Wed. Aug. 18. The workshop is entitled “A Value Based Approach to Designing Your Business and Your Life.”

Matt Lopez Memorial Golf Tournament

The first annual Matt Lopez Golf Tournament will be held Friday, Oct. 22 at San Juan Oaks Golf Course. A ranch barbecue dinner will follow the tournament.All proceeds will benefit the Matt Lopez Memorial Scholarship.

CMAP Directors

Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP) is currently looking for board members to fill three elected positions for the community TV station and make crucial decisions on how CMAP is run. The board meets the second Monday of the month at 6pm in Hollister, Gilroy or San Juan Bautista. Interested candidates must be CMAP members and submit a nomination petition with 10 CMAP member signatures by Fri. Sept. 3 at 5pm.
