QuickBooks Workshop

The Gavilan College Small Business Development Center will host a Quickbooks 2004 workshop from 6 to 8pm Sept. 9, 16 and 23 at the Gavilan College SBDC at 8351 Church St. Building E in Gilroy. The 3-week progressive course will take you through the basics of the program’s business account managing and synchronization features. The cost is $90 payable in advance and students may bring a laptop computer with QuickBooks 2004 installed. Pre-registration is required.

Street Closures

The City of Hollister will close several streets downtown on Thursday, Sept. 2 in preparation for a paving project. The city will close Fifth Street from Monterey Street to San Benito Street and San Benito Street to East Street; Sixth Street from Monterey Street to San Benito Street; and Seventh Street from San Benito Street to Sally Street. The paving project is tentatively planned for Sept. 9. The sidewalks will remain open.

Presentation: ‘Textile Arts of Azerbaijan’

Edith Bingham, handweaver and artist based in Hollister, will speak on the textile arts of Azerbaijan at the September meeting of the Gabilan Quilters Guild on Tuesday, September 7, at 7 p.m. in the Hollister Methodist Church social hall at the corner of Monterey Street and Fifth Street. She studied rug weaving, taught art in orphanages and collected folk tales while living in Baku, on the Caspian Sea, north of Iran and south of Russia, from September 2002-June 2003 and December 2003-March 2004.

Kinship Food and Wine Tasting

The 48th annual Food and Wine Tasting fund-raiser for the Gabilan chapter of Kinship, an organization dedicated to providing support and services for foster children and their families, will be held from 4 to 6:30pm Sept. 11 at Paicines Ranch at 13388 Airline Highway approx. 1 mile past the village of Paicines on Hwy. 25). Apples Ready

The agricultural Commissioner of San Benito County has announced Red Delicious apples are released for harvesting. Tests indicate the apples have reached the minimum maturity standards necessary for shipping. Individual growers are reminded that they will have to decide the optimum time for harvesting based on color, size and other considerations.
