Presentation: ‘Textile Arts of Azerbaijan’

Edith Bingham, handweaver and artist based in Hollister, will speak on the textile arts of Azerbaijan at the September meeting of the Gabilan Quilters Guild on Tuesday, September 7, at 7 p.m. in the Hollister Methodist Church social hall at the corner of Monterey Street and Fifth Street. She studied rug weaving, taught art in orphanages and collected folk tales while living in Baku, on the Caspian Sea, north of Iran and south of Russia, from September 2002-June 2003 and December 2003-March 2004.

Bygone Years

Bygone Years is searching for World War II Veterans’ stories about serving in the Pacific, Europe or North Africa.

The deadline for the Oct. issue of the Time Capsule is Wed. Sept. 15. The monthly Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled from 9am to 4pm Sat. Sept. 18 at Granville Hall. A general membership meeting will be held from 7 to 10pm on Sept. 23 with a social hour at 6pm. The guest speaker will be David McMillan: “The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain.”

Hispanic Women in Action

The 15th Annual Hispanic Women in Action Reception will be held at 6pm Sat. Oct. 16 at Ridgemark Country Club. Everyone is welcome to attend. Keynote speaker Lt. Col. Ret. Consuelo Castillo Kickbush will speak and dinner and entertainment is planned.

CPR Class

There will be a CPR for the Professional Rescuer (BLS) class from 6 to 10pm on Sept 22 and 23. The cost is $75 and participants must attend both classes.
