Paine’s alters look, hires new chef
To correlate with their 2-year anniversary of owning Paine’s
Restaurant, Tony and Lorraine Garcia are renovating both the inside
and outside of the East Street building.
Some of the work is done, such as painting the building’s
outside tan with black trim. Over the next two weekends, the inside
will be painted as well
– tan and amber in the entrance and dining room, while the bar
has been coated with a sage-green color, Lorraine Garcia said.

To correlate with their 2-year anniversary of owning Paine’s Restaurant, Tony and Lorraine Garcia are renovating both the inside and outside of the East Street building.
Some of the work is done, such as painting the building’s outside tan with black trim. Over the next two weekends, the inside will be painted as well – tan and amber in the entrance and dining room, while the bar has been coated with a sage-green color, Lorraine Garcia said.
While the changes will be noticeable, she noted how they plan to “keep some of old Paine’s with it” by putting out historic pictures of Paine’s earlier years in the dining room. Though it’s their 2-year milestone, the restaurant that opened in 1929 celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. The Garcias expect to commemorate that achievement later in the year.
Work on the outside, meanwhile, will include a new sign, new awnings and a new outside menu box. Along with those changes, she noted Paine’s has a new chef, Carlos Ruiz, and the restaurant plans to put out new lunch and dinner menus. It also will be opening Sundays for football season starting Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. in the bar and 4 p.m. in the dining room, she said.
