Go-kart track to open soon
The new Hollister Speedway go-kart track is scheduled to open by April 2, while the business is busy getting the track ready for the public, co-owner Gary Kerr said.
The track is being set up inside the Advantage Truss building – Hollister Speedway is leasing it from the owner – and will be adjustable so that the business can move it.
Kerr said the track is nearly done, with final touches needed on two of the corners. He also has a driver testing out the surface, and the business is seeking more test drivers as the opening approaches.
It is located at 2025 San Juan Road neighboring the city’s west side.
“The karts are running good,” Kerr said. “I’m working on the surface to get better traction.”
The go karts’ speeds can reach 35 mph to 45 mph, and there will be smaller models for younger children.
County planning commissioners approved the project six weeks ago.
Kerr noted how he still has to handle some minor issues yet with lighting and placing signs.
Once opened, it will lessen the drive to the nearest, similar track – which is in Fremont about 60 miles away.
Kerr expects to have the business phone number set up Monday, and it will be 637-RACE.
