The closure to one of the city’s busiest intersections for bypass construction has been put off again until at least the end of June.
The closure and related detours at the Airline Highway and Nash Road intersection is one of the last steps for completion of the long-awaited Highway 25 bypass. Council of San Benito County Governments officials had planned the construction there for May, but later moved it to early June and now most recently to later in the month, said Mary Dinkuhn, transportation planning manager.
Dinkuhn today attributed the latest delay to issues with utility lines in the area – for Pacific Gas & Electric and Charter Communications – which need to be removed. She also noted how crews recently cut some AT&T lines, leading to service interruptions for area customers and a delay to the bypass work.
There is no specific, estimated date for completion or opening of the new bypass, but COG officials hope it happens at some point in fall.
