Art League Spring show
The Hollister Art League will host its spring show through June 1.
MONTEREY
Multiple shows open at Monterey Museum
The Monterey Museum of Art has several shows on display, including “The Art of California, 1880 to present,” “Adams & Weston and the masters of California Photography, “California Artists and Portraiture,” and more. The museum has locations at 559 Pacific St. and 720 Via Mirada. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and military and children under 12 are free. Storybook Theatre
The Monterey Peninsula College Storybook Theatre presents “Pixies, Kings and Magical Things,” based on the works of Hans Christen Andersen, through May 22, at the MPC Theater, 980 Fremont St., in Monterey. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, at 3 p.m. The stories will include “The Emperor’s New Cloths,” “The Ugly Duckling,” “The Swineherd” and “The Pixie and the Grocer.” Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for teens 16-21, and $9 for children 15 and under.

Dog Days of Hollister
The Hollister Dog Owners Group will host the Dog Days of Hollister, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Dunne Park, in Hollister. Dog Days is a celebration of the dog. They promote responsible dog ownership by highlighting some of the fun ways people can build strong, mutually appreciative relationships with their dogs. Spring Round-Up
CASA of San Benito County will host its annual fundraiser, the Spring Round-Up, May 21, from 6 p.m. to 1- p.m., at Bolado Park. The event will include a barbecue dinner, dancing and an auction. Bake sale
Leeandra Archdeacon will hold a bake sale May 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in front of the Hollister Safeway store for the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. The nonprofit organization funds research, awareness and gives support to families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Archdeacon is raising money to participating with the half-marathon team at the Disneyland half marathon “Run for Our Sons.”
Spaghetti feed
Hollister’s Italian Catholic Federation is hosting a spaghetti feed May 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Sacred Heart O’Reilly Hall, 680 College St. Sit-down or take-out meals are available. concert A free concert will be held at Mars Hill Coffee House May 21, at 6 p.m. The all ages show will include performances by “Easy Company,” “Aaron Hernandez” and other alternative rock bands.

Kids’ fishing and fun day
The 22nd annual Kids’ Fishing and Fun Day, hosted by the Department of Water Resources and the California State Parks staff and volunteers, will be held at San Luis Creek on the O’Neill Forebay, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children ages 3 to 15 may sign in from 10 a.m. on. They will receive free bait. Children can snack on free strawberries and whipped cream and do free craft projects. There will also be a fishing simulator for them to try and free pontoon boat rides will be given (weather permitting.) There is a $10 state park day use fee per car. Monterey Symphony
The Monterey Symphony will perform May 21, 22 and 23 for the final concert of the 2010-11 season. The May 21 concert will be at the Performing Arts Center of the Steinbeck Institute of Art and Culture, 940 N. Red Barn Run
The second annual Red Barn Run 5K and 10K will be May 22, at Casa de Fruta. The event benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Prices will increase then. The registration includes the run, a souvenir T-shirt, a post-race barbecue lunch with water or a beer (for 21 and older), a best over all grand prize for the male and female top finisher and awards for the top three finishers in each division. Team Challenge car wash

Chicken barbecue
The San Juan Bautista VFW Post 6359 and Friends for Mary Sellen will be hosting a chicken barbecue take out May 22, from noon to 5 p.m., at the San Juan Veterans Hall, 58 Monterey St. The barbecue is $10 per plate and includes chicken, salad, beans and garlic. There will be a no-host bar and a music provided by the Bar Hoppers. Raffle tickets will be available fro $5 each or five for $20, with a drawing held that day (need not be present to win.) The San Benito County Historical Park will host several events June 4, including an Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Show that will be open all day. A summer movies series will kick off June 24 at the San Juan Bautista Elementary soccer field, with a viewing of “Megamind.” All viewings are free and start at sunset. The series is a collaboration of the Plaza History Association of San Juan Bautista State Historic Park and the San Juan Elementary home and school club. Earthbound Farms is a sponsor.
