“Tell the World” The Choral Project of San Jose will present a program of spirituals and gospel music featuring vocalists Michelle Jordan and Juanita Harris tonight at 8 p.m. at the San Jose Center for Spiritual Living, 1195 Clark St. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $18 for students and seniors. Miss San Benito Contest The 75th annual San Benito County Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo kicks off with the traditional Miss San Benito contest today beginning at 9 a.m. at the Bolado Park fairgrounds. Contestants will be judged on horsemanship, communication skills, appearance and poise, presentation and scholarship. The duties of Miss San Benito Rodeo include attendance at the annual dinner, annual membership barbecue, downtown parade, and grand entry at the Saddle Horse Show. Winner will also be required to represent the Association throughout the year at the California Rodeo in Salinas, local community functions, the San Benito County Fair, and the Junior Rodeo. Attendance to the contest is open to the public. The Saddle Horse Show begins Thursday, June 26 with the downtown rodeo parade. PINNACLES NATIONAL MONUMENT

“Rockpile Rendezvous” Pinnacles National Monument will celebrate its legacy of local rock climbing today with “Rockpile Rendezvous,” a climbing event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the west side of the park. The event will honor the conservation and stewardship ethic climbers have practiced over the years and provide the park with an opportunity to educate climbers on responsible climbing practices. “American Horizons” The Monterey Museum of Art will hold a special opening for its newest exhibit, “American Horizons: Photographs by Art Sinsabaugh,” today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its La Mirada location, 720 Via Mirada. The exhibit will include works from Sinsabaugh’s two most popular series, “Midwest Landscape Group” and “Chicago Landscape Group” as well as examples of lesser-known works such as portraits and color photographs. Activities at the opening include an arts and crafts session making sun prints in the museum’s courtyard while enjoying the music of “Bean Creek.” Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and military personnel and children under 12 years of age and museum members are free. Storytelling Gathering The 12th annual Storytelling and Indigenous Gathering will be held today from 1-11 p.m. at Indian Canyon, located just past off Hollister off of Grass Valley Road in the Cienega Valley. The storytelling portion will be from 1-5 p.m. and will include stories from Ann-Marie Sayers, Darryl “Babe” Wilson, Kam Lau Night Chase and Ben Benavides. Traditional dancers, including Amah Ka Tura and Humaya dancers, will perform from 6-10 p.m. Other events include music, food, Native American arts and crafts and cultural activities. Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for students with a student identification card and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Sunscreen, hats, blankets and folding chairs are advised. Early Days Meet the people of early California including miners, mountain men, Civil War soldiers and Victorian ladies during San Juan Bautista’s Early Days celebration today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the State Historic Park, located on Second Street between Washington and Mariposa streets. Costumed docents will be on hand to describe live as a pioneer; other activities include craft and cooking demonstrations and horse-drawn wagon rides. Drink an old-fashioned soda or play cars in the saloon. Cost is $2 for adults and persons 16 years of age and under are free. There will be additional costs for wagon rides and sodas. Free parking is available on city streets. This event is sponsored by the Plaza History Association and the State Historic Park.

Grand Victorian Ball A traditional Grand Victorian Ball will be held tonight at the San Juan Bautista Community Center beginning at 7 p.m. with dancing to the music of “Legacy.” A dessert buffet will be served at 11 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and are available at the door. Ticket price includes dance instruction from 2-3 p.m. at the saloon in the San Juan Bautista State Historic Park, admission to the ball, a chance to win two tickets to next year’s ball and the dessert buffet. Kite Day The seventh annual Family Kite Day will be held today from noon to 4 p.m. at Pacheco State Park, 38787 Dinosaur Point Road at the top of Pacheco Pass. Activities will include a “make your own kite” table, free face painting, pie eating contests, bubble gum blowing contests, a “candy-drop” kite, nature tables, a sun and wind table and arts and crafts. Everyone who flies a kite will receive a souvenir Kite Day button. Families are encouraged to bring a kite, hats, sunscreen, drinking water, lawn chairs and a picnic lunch. Founder’s Day Celebration A Blessed Junipero Serra Founder’s Day Celebration will be held at Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo today from noon to 5 p.m. The event will begin with an opening ceremony, followed by Alta California dancers, acorn grinding, blacksmithing, tortilla making, mission games and Spanish colonial horses. Barbecued foods will be sold in the courtyard from noon to 7 p.m. A Founder’s Day Mass will be held in the mission church from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tickets for a barbecue dinner at 6:30 p.m. are available at the mission’s museum store. Admission to the celebration is free.
