Robrock retrospective opens

The Blak Sage Gallery will host ‘John Robrock Through the Ages: a retrospective look and examination of life influences” Oct. 1-28, 727 San Benito St., in Hollister. Robrock, who has an MFA, teaches drawing and painting at San Benito High School. The exhibit will feature 50 framed works of art arranged chronologically, reflecting life phases, including some nude life drawings. Other common themes in the work include cowboys, portraits, Native Americans and landscapes. An opening reception will be held Oct. 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Robrock will also offer demonstrations of portrait drawing techniques, Oct. 16 and 23, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 636-9100.

‘Corridos! Tales of the Mexican Revolution’

El Teatro Campesino presents a special engagement of “Corridos! Tales of the Mexican Revolution” through Oct. 17, at the El Teatro Campesino Playhouse, 705 Fourth St., in San Juan Bautista. Roy Eaton gives piano recitals

Roy Eaton, of New York City, will give two piano recitals on the Monterey Peninsula. The first will be Oct. 8, at 8 p.m., at the Center for Spiritual Living, 400 West Franklin St., in Monterey. The second will be Oct. 10, at 3 p.m., at the Carmel Valley Community Chapel, at Paso Hondo and Village Drive. Both concerts have a suggested donation of $20 per person. Eaton, 80, will play “The Meditative Chopin” and “The Joyful Joplin.” Both concerts will serve refreshments and Eaton’s CDs will be available for purchase.

Northern California Renaissance Faire

The Northern California Renaissance Faire will be held at Casa de Fruta, off Hwy. 152, weekends through Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a different theme each weekend including Bacchanal Masquerade, Celtic Weekend and Oktoberfest. There are a variety of stages and arenas that will provide entertainment such as Punch and Judy Shows, jousting, sword fighting and more. Vendors will sell a variety of foods and merchandise. There will be a Celtic rock concert at 6 p.m. on Saturdays, free with the cost of faire admission. This week’s performance will be by the Young Dubliners, Molly’s Revenge and Wicked Tinkers. Admission is $25 per person, children 12 and under are free, $35 for a weekend pass or $150 for a “fairever” pass. Pet Friends yard sale

Kids Fly Free

Dog dock jumping competition

Splash Dogs hosts ‘Time to get DogGone Dirty” dock jumping competition Oct. 9-10, at 765 Jarvis Lane, off Rosa Morada. Dock jumping is a competitive sport in which dogs jump for distance or height from a dock into a body of water. Each team gets two jumps in each wave. The categories include junior handler, for handlers 6-15, lap dogs for those under 16″ tall, open and pro. Finals are held on the last day of the event. Bill Staines performs in Aromas

Folk music icon Bill Staines will perform at the Aromas Community Grange, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m., at the corner of Rose Avenue and Bardue Street, in Aromas. Coyote Creek Bird Walk

Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent and Wildlife Education Rehabilitation Center volunteer will lead a bird walk Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. along the Coyote Creek, north of Morgan Hill. Participants will have an opportunity to observe migratory birds as well as discover an appreciation of local birds, their habitat and ecological importance. The San Benito County Association of Realtors is hosting a chili cook-off Oct. 15, at the San Benito County Association or Realtors office parking lot, 330 Tres Pinos Road, Ste. C-6.
