Santana exhibit Santa Cruz County Bank will host a solo exhibit
of Manuel Santana through Sept. 30 in four different Santa Cruz
County Bank offices. The exhibit will feature 60 original works of
art by Santana, who was named the 2008 Artist of the Year for Santa
Cruz County. The exhibit will run Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. excluding holidays through

“What I Did in Summer Camp” Original artwork created by children attending the Monterey Museum of Art’s summer Art Discovery Camp will be on display through Oct. 10 in the Youth Art Gallery at the museum, 559 Pacific St. The camp sessions introduced art projects focused on themes of pirates, treasure and imagination as well as art and nature, bookmaking and journaling. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and military personnel and children under 12 years of age are admitted free. Renaissance Faire The 2008 Northern California Renaissance Faire is now open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Casa de Fruta, 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy. This one-of-a-kind event, hosted by Play Faire Productions, introduces visitors to exciting world between 1490 and 1630 by providing a living history event that includes live comedy, improvisation, music, dramatic performances, pirate invasions, and a Celtic weekend.

The faire will run weekends through Sunday, Oct. 12. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children ages 5-12 years; children 5 years of age or younger are admitted free. A weekend pass, which covers the admission for one weekend, is $35 per adult. A “Fairever” pass, which allows unlimited access for all 12 days of the faire, is $150 per person. Circle of Reflection This month’s Circle of Reflection event will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Hollister Japanese Temple Garden. Salinas Airshow Tickets are now on sale for the 2008 Salinas Airshow, which opens today at 9 a.m. at the Salinas Municipal Airport. Flying begins at 11 a.m. This event will include flying displays by U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, a U.S. Navy FA-18 Hornet, an Air Force F-15 Strike Eagle, the SkyHawks Canadian Forces Parachute Team, Sean D. Tucker & the Oracle Challenger, the Collaborators and the Indy Kids Jet School Bus as well as military & civilian static displays. Advance general admission tickets are $16 for adults or $12 for children ages 6-12 years. General admission at the gate is $19 for adults and $15 for children ages 6-12 years. Fun Run Sacred Heart/St. Benedict’s Parish will hold its annual 5-mile Steeple to Steeple Family Fun Run/Walk today beginning with race day registration at 7:30 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 1200 Fairview Road. A pre-registration fee of $25 per person; pre-registration ends Wednesday, Oct. 1 and all those who pre-register will receive a free T-shirt. “Acorns and the Ohlone” Enter the world of the Ohlone Indian and see how they lived and ate during “Acorns and the Ohlone,” a learning event at the Coyote Lake Campfire Center today from 10 a.m. to noon. Cemetery tour Santa Cruz County’s infamous characters and rebel rousers are brought to life during the Evergreen Cemetery Tour: Suicides, Murders, and other Gory Stories today from 10 a.m. to noon at Evergreen Cemetery. Evergreen Cemetery was established in 1850, and as the final resting place for Santa Cruz’s earliest settlers, its dark paths, overgrown vegetation and crumbling stones provide an eerie setting for an array of ghosts. Monarch Day Natural Bridges State Park will celebrate the annual return of the Monarch butterfly to the central coast with “Welcome Back Monarch Day” today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park. Docent led butterfly tours for the public are available weekends beginning Sunday, Sept. 14 through Feb. 14, 2009. The park’s visitor center features local natural history and butterfly puppets, silk scarves, cookie cutters, silver pendants and hand-carved butterfly pens. Mystery Party San Benito Stage Company will present “Murder at the Banquet,” an evening of fun and crime solving, tonight at Pietra Santa Winery. Haunted tour Big Basin Redwoods State Park will host the “The Missing Arm of William Waddell,” the saga of an early Santa Cruz County pioneer, tonight beginning at 7 p.m. This slight twist on history includes a slightly haunting tour around the redwood loop trail as docents recount the encounter between Big Basin’s last lumber mill owner and a cranky grizzly. The tour will include reenactments and other surprises, including music, storytelling and ranger cooked apples around the campfire. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. The event is free; however, parking is $6 per vehicle. Participants are asked to meet at park headquarters and to bring a flashlight.
