“La Carpa de los Rasquachis” El Teatro Campesino will present “La Carpa de los Rasquachis” tonight at 8 p.m. at the group’s playhouse, 705 Fourth St. The play, written by Luis Valdez, recounts the tale of the Chicano farm worker in America. The show will run weekends through September 21. Show times are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors and $8 for children 12 years and under. All seats on Thursdays are $5. Opening night admission is free although donations are appreciated. Strawberry Festival The 14th annual Monterey Bay Strawberry Festival begins today at Ramsay Park, 1301 Main St. The event, which will run through Sunday, Aug. 3, features strawberry-themed food items, pie contests, arts and crafts, live music from artists such as Dave Mason and the BluesBox Bayou Band, a special children’s area and a strawberry carnival. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 3-10 years of age. Three-day family passes, which include two adult and two children admission passes for each day, are $20. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce or at the gate. Half-price carnival tickets are available in advance only at the chamber. Event hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day. The carnival will stay open until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 p.m. Sunday.

“Urinetown: the Musical” The Monterey Peninsula College Theatre department presents “Urinetown: the Musical” tonight at 8 p.m. at the Morgan Stock Stage at MPC, 980 Fremont St. The show is set in a town plagued by a 20-year drought, where water has become so scarce that private toilets are unthinkable and one large corporation has a monopoly on the town’s amenities. The show will run Thursday-Sunday through Aug. 16. Thursday shows begin at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Youth Fair A Youth Fair, sponsored by the Santa Clara County 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA), begins today at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, 344 Tully Road. This free admission three-day event runs Aug. 1-3 and features a number of 4-H and FFA animals on display as well as more than 1,300 arts and craft entries by local youth ages 5-19 years. Other activities include live entertainment by local performers, interactive booths, a petty zoo, pony rides and a livestock auction on Sunday, Aug. 3. “An Afternoon with Rupert Piston” Community Pantry and the Broken Wing presents “An Afternoon with Rupert Piston” today and tomorrow, Sunday, Aug. 3 at the Broken Wing. Local biker cartoonist Piston will give away postcards and collect donations for Community Pantry. T-shirts will also be sold for $15 each with $5 from each sale going to Community Pantry. Living History The Plaza History Association will host a Living History event today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the San Juan Bautista State Historic Park. Antique and Collectible Flea Market The 45th annual Antique Collectible Flea Market will be held today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Third Street. More than 100 antique vendors will be on hand displaying various types of collectible items. There will be food booths as well as live entertainment provided by DJ and Karaoke Entertainment. Gallery walk San Juan Bautista’s art galleries host the city’s monthly gallery walk the second Saturday of each month. This month’s walk will be held today from 1-7 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet artist Gary Coleman and view his latest work during a special artist reception. Marina Day The Moss Landing Harbor District will celebrate National Marina Day today by offering free parking and launching at the district’s North Harbor. Moss Landing Harbor features both commercial and recreational fishing opportunities, six boat launch ramps, nature and whale watching tours, access to Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, kayaking, wildlife viewing, beaches, playgrounds, picnic facilities, a restaurant and a 900-foot public access wharf. “Music at the Mission” The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music presents its 2007 season finale of “Music at the Mission” tonight from 4-6 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. at Mission San Juan Bautista. Birds of prey Meet a real raptor and learn which ones live in the Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear County Park today from 10 a.m. to noon at the Coyote Lake Ranger Station. Cheer Golf Challenge The 2008 Baler Cheer Golf Challenge, sponsored by the San Benito High School Spirit Squad Boosters, will be held today with a noon check-in at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. Renaissance Faire The 2008 Northern California Renaissance Faire opens today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Casa de Fruta, 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy. This one-of-a-kind event, hosted by Play Faire Productions, introduces visitors to exciting world between 1490 and 1630 by providing a living history event that includes live comedy, improvisation, music, dramatic performances, pirate invasions, and a Celtic weekend.

Salinas Airshow Tickets are now on sale for the 2008 Salinas Airshow, which opens today at 9 a.m. at the Salinas Municipal Airport. Flying begins at 11 a.m. This event will include flying displays by U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, a U.S. Navy FA-18 Hornet, an Air Force F-15 Strike Eagle, the SkyHawks Canadian Forces Parachute Team, Sean D. Tucker & the Oracle Challenger, the Collaborators and the Indy Kids Jet School Bus as well as military & civilian static displays.
