Easter egg hunt
The Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxilary will host its
annual Easter Egg Hunt April 23, at 1 p.m., at the Veterans
Memorial Park. There will be three hunting areas for children ages
2 to 10, broken up by ages 2-4, 5-7 and 8-10. There will also be
some special eggs in the hunting areas. Parents are not allowed in
the hunt area. The hunt will start right at 1 p.m., so residents
are encouraged to arrive early. For children who do not find any
eggs, there will be some eggs available at the command post. There
will a designated parking area.

Tokyo String Quartet performs

Chamber Music Monterey Bay presents the Tokyo String quartet, April 22, at 8 p.m., Sunset Center, at San Carlos Street and Ninth Ave., in Carmel. There will be a free pre-concert lecture by Kai Christiansen, a musicologist, from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in Studio 105. Cactus and Succulent Show

A Cactus and Succulent Show will be held April 23 and 24, in the courtyard of Jardines Restaurant, 115 Third St., in San Juan, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Members of the Cactus and Succulent Society of Monterey Bay will be on hand to answer questions on growing drought-resistant plants. Pottery studio open house

Aromas potter Jane Rekedal will host her annual spring studio open house during the Open Studios Tour on April 16 and 17, and again on April 23, 24 and May 7, as part of the Aromas Hills Artisan’s Garden Show. She will display and sell her ceramics, including dinnerware, garden pots, mugs, pots and more. The studio is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is located at 1560 Cannon Road, in Aromas. Multiple shows open at Monterey Museum

The Monterey Museum of Art has several shows on display, including “The Art of California, 1880 to present,” “Adams & Weston and the masters of California Photography, “California Artists and Portraiture,” and more. The museum has locations at 559 Pacific St. and 720 Via Mirada. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and military and children under 12 are free. Padres hikes start up

Reservations are open for the Path of the Padres Hikes at San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area. The hikes are open to the public, ages 6 years and older, by advance reservation only, with a group of 10 needed to conduct the tour. The hike begins at the Los Banos Creek Reservoir boat launch ramp at 8 a.m. and returns at 3:30 p.m. A pontoon boat carries passengers for about 30 to 40 minute to the west end of the reservoir. Along the way, short stops are made so hikers can observe wildlife along the shoreline. The hike is five miles round trip and is moderately strenuous. It takes about five hours. Sturdy footgear is recommended, and hikers should carry a lunch and a minimum of two quarts of water. A reservation fee of $12 is paid for those over $12 or $7 per child, ages 6 to 12. A family of five may reserve space for two adults and three children for $30. Parking is $10 per car. For more information, call 209-826-1197.

Spring Wildflower Hikes

Enjoy a delightful springtime hike with naturalist Jennifer Morgan to view the year’s wildflower display overlooking San Luis Reservoir. The event will include discussions of Native American and pioneer uses of plants and rich history of Pacheco Pass. The hike is about two miles long and is classed as moderate. No advance reservations needed for groups under 10. The hikes will be April 23, 29 and 30, from 10 a.m. to noon. Recommended gear includes waterproof hiking footwear, layered clothing and hat, sunscreen and water. The hike is free but there is a $5 day use per car at the Pacheco State Park.

‘Colors of the Redwoods’

Henry Cowell Redwoods Start Park will host “Colors of the Redwoods,” with watercolor work by Carol Riddle through April 27, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. She will offer a demonstration of her painting April 23. Prints will be available for purchase at the Nature Store. Part of the proceeds will go to the Mountain Parks Foundation. The exhibit is free, but parking is $10. Celebration for the Arts!

Come join the San Benito County Arts Council for its third annual “Celebration for the Arts!” fundraiser April 29, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. Presented by the Arts Council, in partnership with San Juan Oaks, the event will feature salsa legend Julio Bravo Y Su Orquesta Salsabor, an exciting preshow with El Teatro Campesino and ZunZun, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and wine tasting. Proceeds benefit the Artists in the Schools program. Bravo’s band of 11 dynamic musicians will perform Latino jazz, salsa, meringue and more. Benefit pasta feed

The Hollister Kiwanis Club and the San Benito High School Key Club will host the 10th annual benefit pasta feed, April 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with meals available for pick up in Baler Alley (behind the school cafeteria. The meal includes pasta with meat sauce (meatless sauce available on request), garlic bread, salad and dessert. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. The proceeds benefit the scholarship fund for graduating seniors. Coyote Creek Bird Walk

Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent for 20 years and Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center volunteer, will lead a bird walk April 30, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., along the Coyote Creek. Participants will have an opportunity to observe migratory birds, their habitat and ecological importance. Due to terrain, these walks are not recommended for young children. SBHS Carnival

San Benito High School will host its annual carnival May 6-8, in the football stadium parking lot, with rides and games. Proceeds from tickets purchased in advance support San Benito High School student activities and athletics. They are available for purchase at the student payment center, inside the lobby of the main administration building. Cash-only prices are $20 for a book of 30 tickets or $20 for an all-day wristband. The carnival runs Friday, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

MACE banquet

The Mexican American Committee on Education of San Benito County presents the 41st annual scholarship banquet May 7, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., at San Juan Oaks Country Club. The event features dinner, entertainment, an awards programs and dancing. The guest speaker is David Hayes-Bautista, a professor of medicine and director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture at the University of California, Los Angeles. Annual Aromas Garden Tour

The Aromas Hills Artisans will host its annual Aromas Garden Tour May 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event at the Aromas Grange, at the corner of Rose and Bardue avenues for $10 per person. The local 4-H members will be at the Grange to sell plants and boxed lunches. Representatives from the Aromas Water District will answer questions and offer a list of water-wise plants. Guests will be given a booklet with a map to the gardens. The 10 participating properties range from cottage gardens to organic vegetables. Each garden will host various Aromas artisans who will have art on display such as etchings, watercolors, jewelry, stained glass and more.

Oriana Goes Pop!

The Monterey Bay PT Cruisers and the Hollister Downtown Association are hosting the Gathering of the PT Clans – Ten Years of PT Cruising, May 20-22. The Hollister Dog Owners Group will host the Dog Days of Hollister, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Dunne Park, in Hollister. Dog Days is a celebration of the dog. Red Barn Run

The second annual Red Barn Run 5K and 10K will be May 22, at Casa de Fruta. The event benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Registration is $38 for the 5K and $43 for the 10K for runners or walkers who register by May 1. Prices will increase then. The registration includes the run, a souvenir T-shirt, a post-race barbecue lunch with water or a beer (for 21 and older), a best over all grand prize for the male and female top finisher and awards for the top three finishers in each division.
