Art Exposed Downtown
The 3rd annual Charming Chairs and Quilt exhibit will be held in conjunction with the San Benito County Open Studios Tour Preview at the Blak Sage Gallery April 10, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For the Charming Chairs event, artists have painted more than 20 unique, one-of-a-kind chairs for a two-week silent auction. Bidding will begin April 10 and the chairs will be displayed in front of various downtown businesses on San Benito and Fifth streets. Customers, collectors and the curious will have until April 24 to bid on their favorite chair. The money goes to the Downtown Endowment Fund through the Community Foundation for San Benito County. Artwork by the 12 artists participating in the San Benito County Open Studios tour April 24 and 25 will also have items on display.
New Light Ruins performs
The Christian folk-rock band New Light Ruins will be performing at Mars Hill April 10. Other performers will include New Harvest Worship and Every Atlas. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is free.

‘Path of the Padres’
The “Path of the Padres” hikes will be held on some Fridays and most Saturdays and Sundays starting on Feb. 27 and will continue through April 18. The hikes are open to the public, ages 6 years and older by advance reservation only. School group hikes may be arranged during the week. School group reservations and general public reservations are now open. At least 10 people must be involved in the hike to be able to conduct a tour. The hike begins at the Los Banos Creek Reservoir boat launch ramp at 8 a.m. and returns to the ramp at about 3:30 p.m. To make a reservation, call (209)-826-1197 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be a reservation fee of $12 per person 12 years old, and $7 per child age 6-12. Ryuijie photos on display
The Monterey Museum of Art is pleased to present a new exhibition of work by Ryuijie, a contemporary photographer. There will be a fundraiser for the Rancho San Justo Washington D.C. trip at the Elk’s Lodge at 351 Astro Drive. The San Benito Stage Company performance of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factor” runs April 16 through May 1 at the Granada Theater, in Hollister. Shows are April 16,17, 23,24, 30 and May 1 at 7 p.m. and April 18 and 25 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for children and $12 for seniors. Every show will have a golden ticket hidden in the candy sold at intermission. Pinnacles Quilters meet
The Pinnacle Quilters of San Benito County meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the Community Center in San Juan Bautista. The next meeting is April 20. The group encourages the appreciation of fine quilts and the art of quilting among members; increases the knowledge of traditional and contemporary techniques of quilting and provides an encouraging environment in which quilters can practice and exchange ideas; enlightens the public as to the substantial history of quilting as an art form as well as a continuing craft and serves the community through charitable activities involved quilting. Learn about the early Hispanic settlers
Los Californianos, a group for descendants whose ancestors were in California by 1848, will be meeting in San Juan Bautista from April 23-25 to host their quarterly meeting. Activities include Dr. Ruben Mendoza’s latest discoveries at the Mission, and of the State Park by Joe McMahon, a short hike on the De Anza trail with a walk-through of the Casa de Anza. Car seat checkup
San Benito County Child Injury Prevention, First 5 San Benito and the CHP will host a car seat checkup April 29, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the K-Mart parking lot, 491 Tres Pinos Road, in Hollister. Staff will help families learn how to safely install booster seats, convertibles and infant seats. People are asked to bring the child in a safety seat, in the vehicle that will be used most often. Low-cost car seats will be available for purchase with cash. Residents should bring proof of income in the form of a WIC card, Medi-cal card or pay stubs. The wait can be up to 45 minutes. The Friends of the Gilroy Hot Springs will be hosting “A Walk Through History,” May 1, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gilroy Hot Springs, a part of Henry Coe State Park. The 2010 Forest Theater Guild’s Centennial Season will be presenting Treasure Island the play in Carmel at the Outdoor Forest Theater from May 28 to June 20. Treasure Island is a story about a band of unsavory pirates who are pitted against the young hero Jim Hawkins. The tale is told through the eyes of Hawkins aboard the Hispaniola guided by a treasure map to Treasure Island. Tickets will begin being sold in late February.
