Alliance will host Music and Theater in the Park Aug 20, from 1 to
7 p.m., at Dunne Park, in downtown Hollister. The full day of

‘The Goat or Who is Sylvia’

The Paper Wing Theatre Company will perform “The Goat or Who is Sylvia,” Aug. 19 through Sept. 3, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission. PJ Galvan Memorial Golf Tournament

The PJ Galvan Memorial Golf Tournament is Aug. 20, at Ridgemark Golf and Country Club, with check-in and registration at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The fee is $100 per player and includes green fees, a cart and a Mexican lunch buffet. Garden Layout Tour

The South County Garden Railroaders will host the 17th annual Garden Layout Tour Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The admission includes non-perishable food or monetary donations to St Joseph’s Center or the Community Food Bank. ‘Hollister’s Got Talent’

Mini Max Storage is hosting “Hollister’s Got Talent” on Aug. 20, at 3 p.m., at 2450 San Juan Road in Hollister. The winner will receive $200 and a certificate presented by Hollister Mayor Pauline Valdivia as “Hollister’s Most Talented.” The event is free and open to the public.

Rummage sale

The Hollister FreeWheelers, a wheelchair soccer team, will host a rummage sale Aug. 20, from 7 a.m. to noon, at 1481 Versailles Dr., in Hollister.

Class of ’91 reunion

Dance Hall fundraiser

The San Benito County Historical Society will host a barbecue supper and dance Aug. 20 to raise money to rebuild the dance hall. The event will include a barbecue dinner, a cash bar, music from the Buffalo Canyon Band, and prizes. Tickets are $49 per person, or $90 for a couple. Tables of 10 can be purchased for $500. The team table includes reserved seating, a team placard on the table, supper, dancing and some special treats. Metropolitan Opera performs

Monterey Opera presents “Arias in August,” with the Metropolitan Opera Contralto performing Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m., at the Golden State Theatre, 417 Alvarado St., in downtown Monterey. Admission is free though donations by check or cash will be accepted in the theater lobby. Seating is limited and guests can call for reservations. Evenings by the Bay

The Monterey Jazz Festival and the Monterey Bay Aquarium present “Evenings by the Bay,” a summer concert series. The performances are Saturday and Sunday evenings, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Gallery, through Sept. 4. All concerts are Multiple shows open at Monterey Museum The Monterey Museum of Art has several shows on display, including “The Art of California, 1880 to present,” “Adams & Weston and the masters of California Photography, “California Artists and Portraiture,” and more. Save the Music Drive Italian Night

Joe Ostenson’s Save the Music Drive is hosting Italian Night with Silent Auction, Aug. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge, located at 351 Astro Drive. There will be three pastas to choose from, salad, garlic bread, beverage and dessert. $7 per adult and $5 per child (12 and under). Take-out is available. Summer movies series

A summer movies series continues Aug. 26 at the San Juan Bautista Elementary soccer field, with a viewing of “Despicable Me.” All viewings are free and start at sunset. All children must accompanied by a parent or guardian. No alcoholic beverages are permitted. The series is a collaboration of the Plaza History Association of San Juan Bautista State Historic Park and the San Juan Elementary home and school club. Earthbound Farms is a sponsor. The last show is “Vertigo” on Sept. 30.

Ranger-led hikes along the Anza Trail

Guests can join rangers for hikes along the Anza Trail Aug. 26 and Sept. 30. The hikes begin near Old Stage Coach Road at 6 p.m. Hikers should dress in layers as the trail’s location is influenced by afternoon winds. It may be warmer in lower elevations and then cooler above. Please drink water and wear hiking or tennis shoes with good tread. The hike is scheduled early enough so that participants can enjoy the free summer movie series at the San Juan Bautista School soccer field and/or enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. The program is presented in partnership between the National Park Service, Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail and California State Park San Juan Bautista Historic Park. Hispanic Women in Action Reception

The Hispanic Women in Action Reception, hosted by the League of United Latin American Citizens San Benito County, will be Aug. 27, at 6 p.m., at the Cedar House, 7511 Pacheco Pass Road, in Hollister. The keynote speaker for the annual scholarship fundraiser is Carmelita Garcia, mayor of Pacific Grove. The 2011 LULAC Woman of the Year recipient, Cecilia Preciado Burciaga, will also be honored. Aromas Day

Aromas Day is Aug. 28 and will start with a country breakfast and silent auction, from 7 to 11 a.m., at the Aromas Grange, at the corner of Rose and Bardue streets. A parade will be held at 2 p.m. and there will be Art in the Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., presented by the Aromas Hills Artisans. An all-day street fair will include live music, classic cars, antique tractors, a climbing wall, a petting zoo and pony rides, a dunk tank and more. ‘Popol Vuh’

El Teatro Campesino presents “Popol Vuh: Part 3: The Magic Twins,” as well as a reprise of “Part 1: Heart of Heaven” and “Part 2: Seven Macaw.” The third part will run Sept. 1-3, 4-5, 8-25, at the El Teatro Campesino Playhouse. White dove release

Central Coast Dove and the Hollister Veterans Post 9242 will host a Sept. 11 memorial at the Hollister Veterans Building, 649 San Benito St., in Hollister. The memorial begins at 11:30 a.m. with a dove release at noon. The event will feature the pledge of allegiance led by a Boy Scout troop, the national anthem, a prayer led by the Rev. Ardyss Golden, speakers from the fire department, the police department, the Red Cross and a rifle salute and taps by the VFW with “Amazing Grace” played on the bag pipes. The event is one of many being held by the National White Dove Release Society. And White Wings Over America.
