19th Annual Images of the Virgin Exhibit

Galeria Tonantzin will be hosting the 19th Annual Images of the Virgin Exhibit now through Jan. 16, with a Virgin Image Conference and Public Reception for the Artists Dec. 11. Each year the gallery offers a chance to exhibit images created by women artists that express the sacred female. This year’s exhibit was juried by Amalia Mesa-Baines and presented in conjunction with the Monterey Bay Women’s Caucus for Art. The Conference is $30, and is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 203 Fourth St., in San Juan. Reservations required. Winter Dance Concert

The Winter Dance Concert, “Dancing thought the Decades,” will be held Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at San Benito High School in the auditorium. More than 200 students, who are involved in clubs and classes, will be performing 25 different acts that follow dance and music through the decades. Dance styles that include jazz, lyrical, swing, and hip hop. Also newer cultural styles such as samba, bellydance, and Bollywood will be performed as well. Presale prices are $5 for students with ASB and children under 12, $6 for students without ASB, and $8 for adults, and at the door prices are $10. Presale tickets are available at the SBHS student payment center.

Carmel holiday tree lighting

The city of Carmel invites residents to attend the annual Holiday Tree Lighting, held on Dec. 3 starting at 4:30 p.m. in Devendorf Park, located on the corner of Ocean Avenue and Junipero. There will be performances by the Carmel Middle School Choir and Junipero Serra School Kids. Refreshments will be provided. Breakfast with Santa

Hollister Recreation, Kiwanis of Hollister and Autoworks are sponsoring the annual Breakfast with Santa, Dec. 4, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Veteran’s Memorial Building, 649 San Benito St. Tickets are on sale now, though the breakfast is free for the first 250 children. Tickets for youth under 12 are $4, $6 for adults, $5 for seniors. Pictures with Santa are $7. Breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, an order of sausage, coffee, juice, hot chocolate or tea.

Top Hatters Motorcycle Club canned food drive

The Top Hatters Motorcycle Club will host its 21st annual canned food drive Dec. 4, at Whiskey Creek Saloon, 201 Fifth St., in Hollister. Sing in is 10 a.m. to noon, with the pack run to the food bank starting at noon. Canned goods can be dropped off at Whiskey Creek Saloon, Mom and Pops Saloon, in San Juan Bautista or Top Dog Cycles, in Gilroy. Winter Expo Fair

The Hollister Dual Language Academy will host a Winter Expo Fair Dec. 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 921 Santa Ana Road, in Hollister, in the Gecko Hall Multipurpose Room. The event includes a variety of vendors selling holiday gifts, music, dance performances, food and raffles. ‘A Christmas Musical’

Holiday Open Studios

The Aromas Hills Artisans will hold a holiday open studio Dec. 4 and 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is a free, self-guided tour that allows visitors to explore the working spaces of the artists while finding special holiday gifts custom made for the event. Pottery studio open house

Local potter Jane Rekedal will host a fall studio open hous Dec. 4 and 5, at 1560 Cannon Road, in Aromas. Visitors will find teapots shaped like apricots, specialty raku pots, pie plates and many decorative serving pieces. Visitors to the studio will see the kilns, wheels and workspace where Rekedal creates her wares. Her pottery is food safe and can be used in the microwave, oven and dishwasher. 5th Annual Holiday in Lights Parade

The 5th Annual Holiday in Lights Parade starts at 5:30 p.m., at the San Juan School. The parade will continue from Nyland Drive, down Third Street to Tuahalami Street, up Second Street to Franklin Street and then back to Third Street. Santa will be on site to meet with children and take pictures. A Holiday Merchants Open House will take place during the event, which is sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista. Living History Days

The San Juan Bautista State Historic Park will host Living History Day Dec. 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Living History Day is hosted on the first Saturday of every month. Meet the characters of early California, including mountain men, Victorian ladies, soldiers and more. There will be craft and other demonstrations, as well as card games. ‘Peter and the Wolf’

Gavilan Children’s Theatre presents “Peter and the Wolf,” Dec. 4, at 2 and 7 p.m. The show will be presented by John Lawton Haehl and his children’s theatre calss. Suggested donations include canned fruits and vegetables, soups and stews, tuna and peanut butter. Cans or plastic containers only will be accepted.
