GFWC Women’s Club rummage sale

The GFWC Women’s Club of Hollister will be holding a rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 17 and 18 at 381 Morada Lane. Those attending will have a chance to register for a drawing for two hours of free house cleaning. Proceeds for the rummage sale will be sued in community projects. ‘The Art of Children’s Books’

The Monterey Museum of Art

La Mirada presents “Over Rainbows and Down Rabbit Holes: The Art of Children’s Books” through September 13, 720 Via Mirada in Monterey. The show will feature 70 original illustrations from well-known children’s books. Classics in the exhibition include “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” by Beatrix Potter. There will be a storybook time every Saturday at 2 p.m. will the show is on display. Regular admission is $5, $2.50 for students and military, free to MMA members, children under 12 NARM and AAM members. San Juan Bautista de Anza trail hike

Come for a free two-mile guided moderate hike near the historic town of San Juan Bautista July 18 and 25. Participants will learn about local history and enjoy a leisurely hike through the gently rolling oak woodland hillside. The event will be held from 10 am to 1 pm. If interested in participating, meet the park ranger at the trailhead (North Gate) at the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail and call Michelle Armijo at San Juan Bautista State Historic Park with any questions, 623-4881. Remember to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, hat and sun block.

Downtown movie series

Po the Panda (voiced by Jack Black) wants to be a kung-fu master, but mostly he is just good at making noodle bowls. Po finds himself in the midst of the Furious Five when he is chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy. The other kung-fu masters don’t want him around, but their guru Master Shifu (voiced by Dustin Hoffman) encourages him to believe in himself. The show is set for Thursday after 9 p.m. at the corner of Fourth and San Benito streets. Admission is free. Children should be accompanied by an adult. No alcohol or animals allowed. Movies in the Park

The San Juan Bautista Historic Park is hosting a movie series in the park once a month through August. The next showing is “Stage Coach.” Movies start at 8:30 p.m. A short presentation on the history of San Juan or related to the movie will precede the movie at 8:15 p.m. The viewing is free to the public, and any proceeds will benefit the Plaza History Association. The Hollister Spirit girls U11 competitive soccer team will host a garage sale fundraiser July 25, from 7 a.m. to noon at Bertuccio’s Lot near Union Road, 2410 Airline Hwy. Several families will be participating with items for sale and everyone is welcome.

Circle of Reflection

Don Belt will host “Harmony, Rythum, Balance – The Spiritual Essence of Personal Expression” at the Hollister Japanese Temple Garden (HJTG), 920 Riverside Road, July 25 at 1 p.m. Participants are asked to bring an instrument to play, a song to sing or a poem or short essay to read. Vacation Bible school

Trinity Lutheran and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church are offering a vacation bible school July 27 through 31. The theme is adventures through the bible. The program is 8 a.m. to noon each day. Scholarship fundraiser

The Teressie White Memorial Scholarship Foundation – with Doris Gerber, local founder of the Watsonville Elks parking lot sales – will be holding a benefit parking lot sale Aug. 1. Fifty spaces are available at the Aromas Grange, at the corner of Bardue and Rose. Space rental proceeds benefit the Teressie White Memorial Scholarship Foundation that gives scholarships to deserving local kids. Spaces: 12 x 12 (outside) for $20 or 8 x 8 (inside) for $25. Watsonville Strawberry Festival

The Strawberry Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug 1 and 2 in downtown Watsonville. Come and enjoy live music, and the highlight of the festival, “Strawberry Lane.” This features a variety of treats in which strawberries, provided by local growers, are the main ingredient. Monterey Bay Berry Festival

Come and enjoy various berries at the celebration of the “new” Monterey Bay Berry Festival Aug. 1 and 2. The two-day festival will be held from 10 am to 9 pm. There will be live concerts, arts and crafts, the berry carnival, Arabian horses, and much more. The berry carnival closes at 11 p.m. on Saturday and 10 p.m. on Sunday. On-site parking will be $2, and general admission is $6 and $3 for children between the ages of 3-10. Half-price advance carnival tickets are available at the Pajaro Valley Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, 449 Union St., Watsonville, through July 31. Two-day family passes for two adults and two children are $20 and are also available at the Chamber office or at the gate. Charity golf classic

Communications Unlimited and the Hollister community are partnering with local businesses to raise money for three charities, including Standing in the Gap-Now, Compassion Pregnancy and Emmaus House. The charity golf classic will be held Aug. 28, at the Gabilan Golf Course at Ridgemark with $2,500 in prizes. It will include a barbecue lunch, games and entertainment followed by an evening dinner and dance. Tickets are $125 for all events, or $50 each for dinner and dancing only. Aromas Day

Aromas Day is Aug. 30 and will start with a country-style breakfast buffet at the grange from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The street fair is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the parade starts at 2 p.m. The event includes music, food booths, original art and more. For children, there will be a petting zoo, pony rides, a dunk tank and a climbing wall. From Hwy. 101, take Hwy. 129 and turn left on Rogge.
