San Benito High School will host its annual carnival May 6-8, in
the football stadium parking lot, with rides and games. Proceeds
from tickets purchased in advance support San Benito High School
student activities and athletics. They are available for purchase
at the student payment center, inside the lobby of the main
administration building. Cash-only prices are $20 for a book of 30
tickets or $20 for an all-day wristband. The carnival runs Friday,
from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 11
p.m.

‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’

The Gavilan College Theatre presents ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,’ May 6, at 8 p.m. and May 7, from 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., in Gilroy. Multiple shows open at Monterey Museum

The Monterey Museum of Art has several shows on display, including “The Art of California, 1880 to present,” “Adams & Weston and the masters of California Photography, “California Artists and Portraiture,” and more. The museum has locations at 559 Pacific St. and 720 Via Mirada. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and military and children under 12 are free. Comedy film fest

San Benito Stage Co. presents a Comedy Film Festival, May 7, at 6 p.m., at the Granada Theatre, 336 Fifth St., in Hollister. Tickets are $5 and proceeds will benefit the San Benito Stage Company. The evening will feature three films by student directors, including works by Kevin Thome, Jake Hunter and Jimmy Goudge. Party Hearty

Kristen Para Jurevich and Ashlie Uribe will host a Zumbathon for the American Heart Association, called Party Hearty, May 7, at 10 a.m. The two-hour event will include loads of Latin beats, popular songs and fun music from throughout the world, for a $10 per person donation. With easy dance instructions, guests will have fun and get a great workout. At least 75 percent of the donations will go the American Heart association. The event will be at Spring Grove School, 500 Spring Grove Road, in Hollister.

AROMAS

Annual Aromas Garden Tour

The Aromas Hills Artisans will host its annual Aromas Garden Tour May 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event at the Aromas Grange, at the corner of Rose and Bardue avenues for $10 per person. The local 4-H members will be at the Grange to sell plants and boxed lunches. Representatives from the Aromas Water District will answer questions and offer a list of water-wise plants. Guests will be given a booklet with a map to the gardens. The 10 participating properties range from cottage gardens to organic vegetables. Each garden will host various Aromas artisans who will have art on display such as etchings, watercolors, jewelry, stained glass and more.

Pottery studio open house

Aromas potter Jane Rekedal will host her annual spring studio open house during the Open Studios Tour on May 7, as part of the Aromas Hills Artisan’s Garden Show. She will display and sell her ceramics, including dinnerware, garden pots, mugs, pots and more. The studio is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is located at 1560 Cannon Road, in Aromas. Wildflower Walk

Ranger Christopher Crockett will host a wildflower walk, meeting at the Mendoza Ranch parking lot at 9 a.m., of the Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear Ranch County Park, near Gilroy. The walk will be a leisurely loop hike on the Coyote Ridge and Valley Oak trails. Visitors will see what flowers are blooming, take in views of the lake and valley and learn how native Americans lived in the area. The hike and park entry is free. To reach the park, take the Leavesley Road exit toward New Avenue, take a left on new Avenue, turn right on Roop Road and head toward the hills. There is a parking lot on the left at Mendoza Ranch. ‘Pay What You Will’

The San Jose Repertory Theatre’ is hosting a “Pay What You Will” night to support the Japan Reliefe Effort, May 12, at 8 p.m. The performance will be the world premiere of Philip Kan Gotanda’s “Love in American Times,” featuring Linda Park. Proceeds from the box office sales will go to the Japanese American Community and Cultural Center of Northern California for a relief fund. A suggested ticket price is $10, but any amount will be accepted. There will be no handling or facility fee and the seats are first come, first served so theater-goers are urged to come early. Pancake breakfast

The San Juan Fire Department is hosting an annual pancake breakfast May 15, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center, in San Juan. Tickets are $5 for the breakfast, which includes pancakes, bacon and sausage.

Celebrate Our Wildlife

The Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center will host “Celebrate Our Wildlife,” a free event for people who would like to meet some of the animals who are cared for by WERC volunteers. Some of the animals include a turkey vulture, a red-tailed hawk, a peregrine flacon, several types of owls and other birds, as well as two snakes and an opossum. The event is May 15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Old Machado School, 15130 Sycamore Ave., in Morgan Hill. Donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of food and supplies. Some items that are needed include paper towels, high-quality wild bird seed, store gift cards for grocery, department, pet supply or hardware stores. Mental Health awareness

The San Benito County Behavioral Health Department will be hosting a celebration of Mental Health Month, May 18, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at 1131 San Felipe Road, in Hollister. The Monterey Bay PT Cruisers and the Hollister Downtown Association are hosting the Gathering of the PT Clans – Ten Years of PT Cruising, May 20-22. Bake sale

The nonprofit organization funds research, awareness and gives support to families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Archdeacon is raising money to participating with the half-marathon team at the Disneyland half marathon “Run for Our Sons.”

Red Barn Run

The second annual Red Barn Run 5K and 10K will be May 22, at Casa de Fruta. The event benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Registration is $38 for the 5K and $43 for the 10K for runners or walkers who register by May 1. Prices will increase then. The registration includes the run, a souvenir T-shirt, a post-race barbecue lunch with water or a beer (for 21 and older), a best over all grand prize for the male and female top finisher and awards for the top three finishers in each division. Chicken barbecue

The San Juan Bautista VFW Post 6359 and Friends for Mary Sellen will be hosting a chicken barbecue take out May 22, from noon to 5 p.m., at the San Juan Veterans Hall, 58 Monterey St. The barbecue is $10 per plate and includes chicken, salad, beans and garlic. Historical Park activities set

The San Benito County Historical Park will host several events June 4, including an Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Show that will be open all day. Admission is free and will feature antique engine and tractor displays, and demonstrations. Food will be available for purchase and there will be entertainment and a playground area for kids. There will also be a barn sale, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spaces are available for $10. Residents can sell items or search for a special treasure to buy. A wine tasting will also be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with entertainment, hors d’oeuvres and door prizes. Tickets are $20 and proceeds benefint the San Benito County Historical Society. Pet Friends Rescue will host the Wag ‘n Walk June 11, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Graniterock Southside Sand and Gravel plant, 5362 Airline Hwy., in Hollister.
