Hollister Police arrested a teenager on felony arms possession charges after he allegedly led officers on a foot chase Tuesday while carrying a sawed-off shotgun.
Jaime Rosales, 18, of Hollister was arrested on suspicion of possession of illegal weapons and carrying a concealed weapon, police said.
At about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, police received a report of a male in a dark blue Cadillac reportedly brandishing a firearm.
A patrol unit spotted the car, reportedly driven by Rosales, at the intersection of Apricot lane and Westside Boulevard, police said.
When police tried to pull over the Cadillac, the driver pulled into a vacant lot. As officers pulled in behind him, he drove off at a high rate of speed, police said.
As police raced after the car, Rosales reportedly skidded it to a stop and jumped out of the car, still allegedly carrying a brown sawed-off shotgun, police said.
Rosales reportedly ran through several back yards near Line Street and Tiffany Drive. Somewhere during the chase, he reportedly dumped the shotgun in hopes that police would not find it and connect it to him, police said.
However, officers who responded to the call cut off Rosales’ escape route and arrested him. Police found the shotgun he was reportedly carrying and took it as evidence.
The case is under investigation and Rosales is being held in San Benito County Jail on $31,000 bail, according to jail records.
