The Carson & Barnes Circus was in town for two days last week, attracting young kids from throughout the county who were hoping to see the giant elephants or “Alex the Clown” do a trick.

The giant, red tent was submerged in the middle of Bolado Park, and the kids were out in droves the first day on Tuesday afternoon. Alongside the tent, and before its entrance, circus-goers were able to ride camels, elephants or pet other small animals.

Clowns with white-painted faces, and red noses and lips, roamed the fairgrounds and grabbed the attention of the numerous kids.

But it was the elephants that brought 9-year-old Kelly Bueno to the circus.

“I wanted to see the elephants because they are so beautiful,” she said. “I make stories about them at school because I think they are beautiful.”

Her mother, Jaquelin Alvarez, said she went to the circus when she was younger and she wanted her daughter to experience the same thing.

“This is a lot of fun and I’m excited for her,” she said.

Bueno was hoping to ride one of the elephants before the circus started, she said.

“I want to go on the elephant,” she said. “I think they are beautiful.”

Others were just happy to have something to do with their kids or grandchildren, including Beverly Caplette who was with her two grandchildren.

“It’s good to have something for the kids,” she said. “It’s about time.”
