The winning entry will be introduced to the floor of the
assembly as legislation sponsored by Alejo, who represents the 28th
district that includes San Benito County, the Salinas Valley, North
Monterey County, south Santa Clara County and the city of
Watsonville.

San Benito County residents can help write a state law by participating in the “There Ought to be a Law” contest offered by Assemblyman Luis Alejo.
The winning entry will be introduced to the floor of the assembly as legislation sponsored by Alejo, who represents the 28th district that includes San Benito County, the Salinas Valley, North Monterey County, south Santa Clara County and the city of Watsonville.
Winners will also have the opportunity to travel to Sacramento to testify in support of their bill and have lunch with Alejo.
“Some of the best ideas come from working men and women or students who see something in their community and say ‘there ought to be a law,'” Alejo said. “I’m excited to tap into the imaginations of the constituents of the 28th Assembly District and turn one great idea into reality.”
Entrants must turn in a form on which they answer questions such as “Describe your concern that you feel is not being addressed in the community or in the State of California” and “Tell us your proposal for legislation that would handle your concern.”
Participants are asked to describe how the issue came to their attention and to cite newspaper articles or studies they read on the topic or personal experiences they have had related to the issue.
Entries are due by Feb. 14 and will be accepted by mail, e-mail, walk-in or fax. One entry per person will be accepted and the form is available on Alejo’s website or by calling 831-759-8676.
